A novel that sweeps through Japan from the Nagasaki bombing at the end of WW2 to Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11. I am planning a trip to Japan next June so this will be a good start in my holiday reading

I didn't think it would be possible for a novel to coherently bring together such diverse cultures as Japan, Pakistan & the US, but in my opinion, this book genuinely seems to manage just that. As ever it's a story about families & love as well as one of conflict & the US's attempt to dominate the world be that in WW2 or in the Afghanistan conflict.

Just dropping you a line telling the book was still at the Camel & Artichoke on Jan 12th. Oops, there isn't the box to tick in the option that I left the book where it was, now I have to "release" it. The book however never left the building.
