"A grisly murder is committed at a health resort situated in a recently renovated farmhouse, which turns out to be notorious for being haunted. Attorney Thora Gudmundsdottir is called upon by the owner of the resort - the prime suspect in the case - to represent him. Her investigations uncover some very disturbing occurrences at the farm decades earlier – things that have never before seen the light of day . . ."

Ihan ok, taitavasti punottu murhatarina.
Wonderful find from the meet-up, many thanks! I have read the first Yrsa book Last Rituals (Kolmas Merkki) in Finnish and had to clarify the Finnish title for this one, too. It is 'Joka toiselle kuoppaa kaivaa' and it seems I once had it borrowed from the library but did not have time to read it back then. So it is a nice opportunity to read this now in English.
When I visited Iceland in October 2011, I purchased two books by this author from the Reykjavik airport, Ashes to Dust and The Day is Dark. Those are the third and the fourth book in a row. After reading them I will naturally pass them on to you erpax, if you are interested!

Sorry it took me such a long time to read this! The latter part of the book was far better than the beginning for me. It all started so slowly that also I would have left some things out of the story as some descriptions and plot additions were too long in order to keep the good tension up. I liked the characters and the Icelandic feel a lot and felt myself reminiscing my own Icelandic experiences several times while reading this.
Many thanks to erpax for this reading opportunity! I'll have to register and read the waiting Yrsa's in my bookshelf soon to maintain the Icelandic feel :). This book now travels to BC Summer Meeting in the hopes of finding new readers there.

Looking for a new reader in the Finnish BC summer meeting. / Etsimässä uusia lukijoita Kesäpäivien kirjabuffetista.

Crime story set in Iceland! Who can resist? ;)
I agree with erpax that some of the stuff was superfluous to the story and that the book would have benefitted from rigorous editing, but all in all I enjoyed it a lot - not least because of the setting! I have a Facebook friend who lives in Iceland and after seeing her pics from around the island and now reading this book, I suddenly have a real hankering for a trip to Iceland!

Thank you for tagging me. I read the first book in this series early this year and really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to reading this. As my TBR pile is massive it may take me a while to get to it.
I've bumped this to the top of the book mountain because I've tagged someone with it.
I thought this was a really good read, I didn't mind the slow build up. I'm now looking forward to reading the next in the series.
