This is another of those "why on earth did I never read this read before" books. I loved every minute of it and read it in under three days as I couldn't put it down. Quite dark and in the end you are still left wondering how much of the truth you are actually told.
The blurb on the back reads- "On the hottest day of the summer of 1934, 13 year old Briony Tallis sees her sister Cecilia strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house. Watching her is Robbie Turner, her childhood friend who, like Cecelia, has recently come down from Cambridge. By the end of that day the lives of all three will have been changed forever."
The story is told from the perspective of all three involved and Briony jumps to many conclusions during the day and night that could be attributed to her ignorance or maybe something more sinister, but either way she makes a mistake that has a devastating effect on all the lives involved. Must stop now before I give something away. I will just finish by saying if you have not yet read this book, READ IT NOW!

Preferred Enduring Love. Found Atonement wordy and slow, but that's life, I guess.
Released on Friday, December 12, 2003 in the St Andrew's Building, Glasgow University in Glasgow, Scotland.
At lunchtime, on a chair near the Coke machine in the cafeteria.
