Blurb:
A long time ago, Joe Pike asked for help. Now he must return the favour, no questions asked...
Pike must protect Larkin Barkley, a spoiled rich girl who is a witness in a major case. But someone is leaking information about their whereabouts, and the killers are getting all too close. So Pike hatches a plan: turn the tables, and hunt down the hunters.
Enlisting the help of Elvis Cole, Pike uncovers a web of lies and betrayals where even the cops aren't who they seem. But as the body count rises, it is clear that Pike's biggest threat may be the girl herself - an edgy, yet intensely vulnerable soul who seems determined to destroy herself....

Earmarked for taking on my jollies, & if it does go with me, it won't be coming back! It will be released somewhere in Texas, so if you're reading this PLEASE let me know where you found it or how it got to you - it would be much appreciated :o)

Will up-date with review & actual release details on my return

Edit:
I've never "met" Joe Pike, or Elvis Cole for that matter, although a few of Crais' books have passed through my Bookcrossing shelf - I'm now regretting not reading them!

This was a really good read, action packed with an intelligent storyline that begged me to keep reading. I really liked both Pike & Cole, particularly the banter between them & Larkin, the rich girl Pike was protecting.

The story also had flashbacks into Pike's past which gave an insight into his life - his rough up-bringing with a violent father, his time in Vietnam, years in the police & reason he resigned & took up a position as a mercenary which gave plenty of info about his character.

A great read & I really enjoyed the final chapter which showed just what sort of man Pike is - & he's one I like :o)
