Journal Entry 1 by catsalive from Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Friday, November 18, 2011
Wonderful powers have descended upon Jane, Sukie and Alexandra now that their husbands are out of the way: Alexandra sculpts and creates thunderstorms; Jane plays the cello and can fly through the air; Sukie writes a gossip column and turns milk into cream. Their snug little coven takes on a new and more malignant life when a dark, burly and apparently wealthy stranger, Darryly Van Horne, arrives in town; he refurbishes the old Lenox mansion, and sets up an alchemist's lab. Divorced but hardly celibate, the wonderful witches one day found themselves quite under the spell of the new man in town, whose strobe-lit hot tub room became the scene of satanic pleasures. Thenceforth, rumour and misfortune flit through the marshes and the pleasant crooked streets. The action consumes a year during the national Walpurgisnachte of the Vietnam era.

I did see the movie some years ago. I guess it was based on this book. I must have a look.
