Journal Entry 1 by ravencat from Lancaster, New York USA on Tuesday, November 08, 2011
R is having a no life crisis. He is a Zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow Dead. He may occasionally eat people, but he'd rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization. And then he meets a girl. First as his captive, then as his reluctant guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R's gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn't want to eat this girl - although she looks delicious - he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can't imagine, and their hopeless world won't change without a fight.

I wasn't sure what to expect about a storyline with zombies but I have to say it was new and different and somewhat thrilling. The story actually had a very interesting premise with the zombie actually having thoughts and feelings and found myself rooting and cheering for him by the end of the book. If you enjoy Neil Gaiman then I think this is a book you will enjoy. Update: This will now be an International Bookring. Journal Entry 5 by VictoriaWagtail at Bagarmossen, Stockholm Sweden on Monday, February 13, 2012
I actually read this book several days ago but I haven't had the time to sit down and write a review until now, the last week has been kind of hectic... And I also wanted to write something that really does this book justice because it was so amazing! I really loved this book! When I've told other people about this book most of them frown a bit and go "Zombies? I don't like zombies and I certainly dont want to read about them. I prefer to read about the stuff that really matters in the world we actually live in". Or something like that... But they clearly don't know what they're talking about! This book is the ultimate proof that also fantasy can be great litterature. Sure, it's a book about made up people, living in a non-existing dystopian future under constant threat of doom because of creatures that don't exist. But through the story of maybe the most non-human "thing" there is, the zombie, the author of this book manages to describe what to me feels like the core of humanity. It feel so true and important and still this book is also easy to read, funny and beautiful. It's amazing!

Got it in the mail a few days ago and i am done reading it. It is definitely a quick read, but don't let that fact mislead you. The book is amazing, and i don't even like zombies (I'm more of a vampire kind of girl). The story says a lot about being human, and of becoming what you want even though every "truth" is against you. The author holds one of my favorite writing skills; being able to tell the most important things with with only a few words. I'm gonna keep an eye on this Isaak Marion, i hope he continues to write. I'll get Deepswamp's address and send the book on, though i don't really want to.

Journal Entry 12 by Firegirl at Annandale, Virginia USA on Monday, April 23, 2012
**SPOILER ALERT** I so wanted to like this. I read the first half very quickly and enjoyed it; I was curious to see where it was going to go. I found it initially an interesting concept - zombie as not a mindless entity. It was a little confusing with Perry, but I did appreciate the idea that zombies crave and eat the brain at least in part to relive memories. That was a new twist, for sure. As soon as I realized where the author was going with the plot, though, I started to lose interest. I mean, I get that it is hard to come up with a new take on the zombie novel, and I am all in favor of peace, love and harmony, but the idea of love being the cure to the zombie plague just made me roll my eyes. I appreciate the theme of "if we took the time to understand our enemies, we could progress toward peace" but it just didn't work for me here. Also, the whole, painfully obvious -Romeo & Juliet- thing made me want to retch. The zombie is "R(omeo)", the girl he is in love with is Julie(t), her previous boyfriend who R eats is Perry (Paris), and R's best friend is M(ecrutio). I mean, really, obvious much? And what's with Julie being so forgiving of R killing Perry? He killed him and ate him and she just kinda shrugs it all off? The death of the first boy she ever loved? No no no. Perry winds up being portrayed as the monster when all he's trying to do is, hello? Survive in a zombie apocalypse!! And R, the *actual* monster, gets off easy because he falls in love. Right. Zombie war ended by teenage love. Glowing yellow eyes after being infused by love. Zombie Jesus, anyone? Failed zombie book, failed romance story. A disappointing finish for me, sad to say. Will send on to the next in line soon, with hopes it will be better received.

Interesting concept to read about a zombie coming back to "life." I enjoyed the book. It was a little slow at times. I think the one huge thing missing was an epilogue.

Received in the mail today...although I have a bookring or two ahead, will get read and sent back to ravencat so it can be posted internationally (although I am willing to ship directly, please let me know if you want me to do so). Although I don't usually read many zombie stories, it looks like an intriguing story.
