The Soloist (Movie Tie-In): A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music

The true story of LA Times columnist Steve Lopez and his friendship with homeless musical prodigy Nathaniel Ayers. This is a truly wonderful book - compassionate without being condescending. I really loved this book.
the very kind MoutainWren sent me a book off her wishlist, and in return I went through her wishlist and discovered I had a bunch of her wishes on my TBR shelf. It took longer than I'd hoped, but I'm finally getting a nice big RABCK stack off to her. Enjoy!!
Dear Reader:
What you have in your hands is an honest-to-goodness gift, no strings attached. You may keep it forever and ever, pass it on to a friend, or release it in the wild. I know it may seem a little odd to find this lying around--it's my way of touching the lives of others in a positive way, with the hope that it made your day. I hope you'll journal so all the previous and future readers can track this book's journey.
Thanks, and happy BookCrossing!

Wow! A second big package of books arrived today from OneMorePage. It's like Christmas around here! I have liked Steve Lopez's writing since he was a columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer years ago. I'm also intrigued by the subject matter of this book. Thank you for sending.
An honest look at mental illness, as seen through the eyes of LA Times columnist Steve Lopez. Lopez met homeless musician Nathaniel Ayers, and was intrigued by the story of how such a talented man ended up living on the streets. Lopez's growing friendship with Ayers led him to learn much more about music and mental illness, and to affect real change in how Los Angeles treats its neediest residents.
Thanks for the chance to read this inspiring book. I plan to release it or pass it along soon.
