An amazing and important book, which all LGBT people should read. This is our history, and most of what happened in this book took place within my lifetime. Absolutely awful, but deeply touching. I've passed on to Aileen.

Even for the reader who knows her L&G sex-politics history, Crawling Through Thorns* comes at you like a brick in the face.
John Idris Jones tells his own story as a boy then a man, stripped, shocked & denied oxygen by the communities & culture of mid-seventies small-town Wales. Given 'treatment', his is amongst the most powerful indictments I've ever read, of legitimised psychiatric abuse. He holds on tight to his god & faith, while most christians turn their backs; they'll allow him grace, if he'll live their lie.
For any individual facing inhumanity I believe this story gives a foothold & affirmation.
For every individual today who feels free to be who they are, this story affirms those who made it possible.
And for every individual opposed on 'moral grounds' to same-sex equity, this story will tell you what you really should already know.
