In AD 79, Mount Vesuvius erupted, consuming the Italian city of Ponpeii in fire and ash. Now, nearly 2,000 years later, Carlotta Esposito approaches her eighteenth birthday - and her death, at the hands of an ancient family curse. Against the wishes of the family patriarch, Carlotta's cousin Franca makes a desperate bid to save her life, summoning Hellboy, the world's greatest paramormal investigator, to the Esposito ancestral home in Amalfi. To spare Carlotta, Hellboy will have to unravel the dark history of the Esposito family before it's too late.
