This was quite an interesting book. Laura Ingalls Wilder writes letters to her husband Manly back in the Ozarks. She is visiting her daughter Rose in San Francisco in 1915 to visit the Pacific-Panama International Exposition that was set up to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal. It was quite interesting to read about the different exhibits at the exhibition and to read about San Francisco back in 1915, only ten years after the earthquake and fire. I liked getting to know Laura Ingalls Wilder as a person. She is starting her writing career and does write a couple articles for a Missouri newspaper but has not started her delightful Little House books yet.

I probably last read this when I was in what is now called middle school..so maybe it's time for me to take another look! ;)

I enjoyed reading Laura's letters: a glimpse of the woman behind the well-known stories. Seems to me that as what is now known as a tween, I devoured all of the Little House books and then went on to read this book, On the Way Home, The First Four Years, and even Rose's Let the Hurricane Roar.
Reading this book made me want to know more about the PPIE; fortunately, I found a good site to help me do that.
Mom read this too..and now I'll save it for a few weeks. :)

I'm so glad you've found this book!
Won't you please make a journal entry to let the book's previous readers know that it's safely in your hands? How did you find it? What did you think of it? What are you going to do with it next?
It's now your book, for you to do with as you please: keep it, pass it to a friend, or maybe even leave it where someone else can find it!
If you've ever wondered where your books go after they leave your hands, join BookCrossing and you may find out: you'll be able to follow the further adventures of your books as new readers make journal entries - sometimes from surprisingly far-flung locations.
(Think of it like Where's George for books...or a little like geocaching - you can follow the book's journey every time someone makes a new entry. Some BookCrossers even leave books *in* geocaches!)
