My first Stephenson novel, this was great fun to read -- over-the-top and densely packed with ideas. It's really hard to believe this book was published almost 20 years ago.

This novel, which is #26 on NPR's Top 100 Sci-Fi and Fantasy book list, is reserved for JudySlump612's VBB.

Took the bok on holiday with me to Nanning so that I could eventually get around to reading it.

This is an entertaining read, done is just a couple of days.

The book starts with Hiro Protagonist racing around in an armoured car delivering pizza. You can tell my the name of the mani character that the author is not taking the story too seriously. It is kinda like a parody of cyberpunk and very satirical in places. While not that successful in Reality, being part time pizza delivery guy and part time hacker & information retrieval expert, Hiro is a person of some significance in the Metaverse.

The book does paint quite a good picture of what a virtual reality world would be like and does give details about how the world is created/functions without being too technical. There are some great characters; Hiro himself I did not find that interesting or original, but Y.T the 15 year old Kourier was more fascinating. The story arc is unbelievable (at least to me): a virus that can infect people and machines...all leading to how the root of language was a computer program for people developed by ancient summerian gods?????

Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable romp through a world where there are many, many independent states run by corporations, where a trillion dollars is practically worthless, and there are loads of really cool gadgets.

Thanks for sending my way.
Will keep to put back in the VBB the next round.

Il libro è stato trovato alla fine di un importante viaggio di gruppo. Abbandonato su una panchina londinese. La storia che racconta è incredibilmente simile alla nostra vita. Un vero segno. Claudia, Geppo, Eugenio, Gigi, Giovanni e Nicola.
