A Lesson in Secrets: A Maisie Dobbs Novel (P.S.)
11 journalers for this copy...
In the summer of 1932, the career of psychologist and investigator Maisie Dobbs takes an exciting new turn when she accepts an undercover assignment from the British Secret Service. Sent to pose as a junior lecturer at a private college in Cambridge, she will monitor any activities “not in the interests of His Majesty’s government.”
When the college’s controversial pacifist founder, Greville Liddicote, is murdered, however, Maisie is directed to stand back as her colleagues in Scotland Yard spearhead the investigation. But she soon discovers that the circumstances of Liddicote’s death appear inextricably linked to the suspicious comings and goings of faculty members and students under her surveillance. To unravel this web, the investigator must overcome a reluctant Secret Service, discover shameful hidden truths about Britain’s conduct during the Great War, and face off against the rising power of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei—the Nazi Party—as the storm clouds of World War II gather on the horizon.

Oh, how I love this series about this strong, independent and generous woman.
I'd been waiting for #7 but since it's been on order for months, I skipped ahead to #8. Wish I'd waited, as there were 2 key happenings that I missed and was a bit of a spoiler.
That said, the richly told mystery did not disappoint and I will continue to await each new volume and hope the author has many more planned!

Released at the Calgary May meet-up of BookCrossers at the Joshua Tree Café.
Thanks for the opportunity to reread these books; I enjoy them just as much as the first time!
Book 8 in the Maisie series and the conflicts between her work committments and the demands of friends and family are beginning to escalate. The author drops hints about the possibilities for Maisie's future but very little is revealed by the novels end. It is interesting to try to guess the path the author has determined for Maisie.
Took the book to the Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
Holding the book for future meetup.

I couldn't wait till I got this book so cheated and went to the library....love Maisie Dobbs!
Love Maisie! These books transport you back in time and almost make you wish you lived in the era. Never disapointed in reading a Jacqueline Winspear book.
Bringing back to the Bookcrossing monthly meeting.

Taken to get together
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing February meet-up. Yay, the next book in the series! Can't wait to catch up with Maisie.
So wonderful to catch up with Maisie. It seems like the author is steering Maisie towards a career as a MI5 agent. It would be very cool to see her as a female spy, though I would miss her as a private detective. One thing that felt a little off about the book was how everyone had no qualms about opening up to Maisie. Every time she asked someone some questions, they were all very accommodating. Aside from that, I can't wait to read the next book.
Passing on this book to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing March meet-up.
I have returned from the March meeting with WAY more books than I brought. Love this series!!
I discovered that I hadn't read this one yet. Do LOVE this series. She is such an interesting character and it is set in such an interesting time.
Well - time to get this series on to someone else at the June BookCrossing meeting at Cravings.
Back in my possession until readers of #7 request it. (This is book #8 in the series.)
Taking to the December meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Finally, I can continue Maisie Dobbs' amazing adventures with the next book in the series. Thank you so much fracula! It was so great to get together again!
Bathed in the afterglow of the final page closed on another Maisie Dobbs novel. I think that one of the things that I like so much about these books is that Maisie's life is not stagnant. She evolves with each adventure, going from that young woman in the first book to this independent woman who can teach college level philosophy in her stride.. Time for a short break from our dear Maisie while I squeeze a few more books off my TBR mountain range.
This came home with me so that I could figure out who needed to read it next.

I am bringing this book back to the group... I've checked the lists and all the books seem to have been returned to the person who brought them. Book one is with undersunnyskies and she is the only one not finished the series. I will return this to the person who brought it so they can decide what they want to do... This is a great series, perhaps we can convince some new people to start it.
