I picked this up from the bookswap table at the unconvention in Nottingham. I shall add this to my 'to Be Read' pile (which only consists of the ~15 books I got at the uncon), and look forward to reading it shortly.

Having read and enjoyed other books by Alice Sebold I was disappointed with this. The main character, Helen, was unlikeable and completely self centred. I know she struggled to cope with living with her mother and looking after her mother, but it was difficult to reach any level of sympathy or even empathy for her; I really didn't care what happened to her. There are many characters and 'memories' that were not explained fully.

The book is generally well written although it occasionally loses pace and the ending is sufficiently ambiguous to leave a question mark over what might happen next.
