Product Description
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
First time in paperback

An innocent man is about to be executed.
Only a guilty man can save him.

In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, Travis Boyette abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.
Now nine years have passed. Travis has just been paroled in Kansas for a different crime; Donté is four days away from his execution. Travis suffers from an inoperable brain tumor. For the first time in his miserable life, he decides to do what’s right and confess. But how can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they’re about to execute an innocent man?

I borrowed this book from love2cook........as it was taking her to long to get it off TBR mountain.

This is a very good book. The wrong man is convicted of abducting, raping, and murdering a high school cheerleader. The guilty man keeps quiet until an inoperable brain tumor has him finally doing what is right and confessing to the crime. How can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they are about to execute an innocent man? A very interesting story of the prision system in Texas. I highly recommend it.

Returning it love2cook, with my recommendation that she read it soon.

After all these years, I've finally read this book.
A story of believing a false confession and not believing a truthful confession. One will lead to the death penalty and one will lead to the burial place of the murdered victim. A riveting story making me both saddened and angry. How our system of justice was manipulated to get an innocent man to confess and overlooking all the evidence that he had not committed the crime. From the police, prosecutors, jurors, governor, and many others the system was corrupt from the beginning. The story as told by Grisham was a page-turner brought to life through his words. A very good story even though the subject was disheartening.
Now ready for a new reader.
