Resurrectionist (Matthew Hawkwood 2)

About the book:
The return of Matthew Hawkwood – soldier, spy, lover. A man as dangerous as the criminals he hunts.
The tough Bow Street Runner is back where he’s not wanted, in the most forbidding places London has to offer: its rank graveyards and the sinister halls of Bedlam, notorious asylum for the insane.
The “Resurrection Men”, who supply the city’s anatomy schools with stolen corpses, have taken to murder. Hawkwood sets out to hunt them down, but is soon given a more elusive quarry – Colonel Hyde, an obsessive surgeon whose insanity is only matched by his brilliance, has escaped from Bedlam. An this twisted genius has a point to prove. Which will mean more work for the gravediggers…
My Opinion:
Honestly, the book and I had some misunderstanding. I thought the story would be more Fantasy-like, I was too intrigued by the cover art to read the text on the back cover properly.
Well it is not Fantasy but a very fast paced thriller set in Regency London. The topic was quite fascinating and I thought Colonel Hyde, was on the right track, only a few centuries too early. But then, isn’t the border between genius and insanity rather thin? Thrillers usually don’t belong to my favourite genre, this one however was worth reading (and I learned a few new and fascinating words along the way.)
For me the book also had a connection to the present. In school we just recently discussed the sale of Gunther von Hagens plastinates (human corpses or parts of them preserved in plastics) via the internet and I could actually relate to things about the Resurrection Men, I read in the book.

A solid thriller set in Regency London - in the world of the bodysnatchers keeping the first scientific anatomists in bodies. Without spoiling the fun - it´s interesting to think about the scientific progress that has rendered stuff pretty normal which used to be sheer craziness.
