Teens but adult too, unusual story, compelling. Set in ancient China, a boy who rides strapped to a kite in search of his dead father's spirit. Deals with issues of traditional obedience and respect for elders, and those who take advantage of it for their own ends. Can't wait to find more of this author's work.

Will be doing a bookray with this one soon, pm if interested.

The book arrived safely here this morning - along with two others! This proves the bookray rule - they only ever arrive in threes. And this is the first day I've had book parcels for a week. Do you think the postman saves them up for me?
I look forward to reading this one and passing it on, thanks.

I enjoyed this book, although it was very sad at times.
It produced some interesting thoughts on what is meant by obedience, and the importance of obedience.
I was disappointed by Great Uncle Bo!
Thanks for this, it will be travelling on today.

Book landed safely this morning. Thanks Loopy1, and thanks Shylock - looking forward to this one, though it does have to join Mt TBR at the moment ;o(

I'm not too far from finishing this, and I'm really enjoying it.

I agree with loopy1, especially as I'm at *that* part of the book where the topic/idea of obedience is very prominent. I obviously haven't finished it yet, but it's already making me think about what it means and also, to my mind, what the consequences can be of going with or against it.

I have the feeling that I'm at a very important part of the book, and that "something big" is about to happen....

I'll let you know! ;o)

I finished this book today, and have to admit I really enjoyed it.

It's the sort of book that had me thinking about the characters and/or storyline, even when I wasn't reading it (if that makes sense? ;op)

I found it very easy to identify with most of the main characters, and became "attached" to them too - wondering what would happen. The style of writing is beautiful, and I found it very easy to visualise what whas happening and with who.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the ending of the book, but at the same time it doesn't really feel unfeasible.

Thank you Shylock for sharing this, I look foward to reading more of the same author/style.

Book received this morning, I will read it with my son, so at a chapter a night it will be 3 weeks when I send it on (but it will probably be quicker than that if we both like it!).

Book sent on to next person 1/3/2005 - sorry for delay, I have not been well since November, getting better now, fingers crossed!

It is a nice story, a little sad sometimes, full of adventure and feelings. I've really enjoyed reading it!
Thank you Shylock!

I'll mail this to ramya as soon as I have his/her adress!

This arrived in yesterday's mail. I have a few other rings ahead of this, but this one looks so interesting that I might have to move the others down a spot.

What a fine book! I liked the fact that Sun Swallow was not a superhuman, precocious character but was SCARED to go flying, even as he craved both the exhilaration of flight and the chance to see his father's spirit.

I have just PMed JDT for an address and will send the book on its way this Saturday, I hope.

Journal Entry 19 by Ramya from Plainsboro, New Jersey USA on Monday, July 18, 2005
I've just mailed the book off to JDT via media mail.

Tangled Threads - last on the bookray list - asked to be skipped.
So I'm planning to keep this book moving - perhaps offering at our local meet-up.

One of those special books written for younger readers that tackles universal issues for all ages. Both down-to-earth and a wonderful, mystical feel!

Continuing the journey: sent to SandDanz - part of a book relay!
Enjoy!

Journal Entry 23 by SandDanz from Louisville, Kentucky USA on Friday, September 2, 2005
Received in the mail today as part of a relay. This book looks REALLY, REALLY good!!! Thanks so much! :)
