Another instalment in the Falco series, which I am reading wildly out of order, but it doesn't really seem to matter much. I am reading less for the mystery and more for the local colour, which is effective and hilarious, and while I dare say it's an idealised picture of ancient Rome (or, in this case, Spain), it's an engaging one.

Thank you very much, elstaplador for this book by an author on my wishlist.
I like these ancient mysteries. Like you say, not so much for the mystery, but more for the couleur locale.

I look forward to read it!

Thank you also for the sweets (don't think they'll live long), the great card and the magnetic bookmark you sent along. Thanks!

Short contents:
"Nobody was poisoned at the dinner for the Society of Oliver Oil Producers of Baetica, though in retrospect this was quite a surprise...Inimitable sleuth Marcus Didius Falco is back with a vengeance. On one night, a man is killed and Rome's Chief of Spies left for dead. This leaves no one except Falco to conduct the investigation. Soon he is plunged into the fiercely competitive world of olive oil production. Political intrigue, an exotic Spanish dancer and impending fatherhood all add to Falco's troubles."

This book did not really attract me.
I started reading, but at first I couldn't get into it and then, when I finally got a grip, I was rather anoyed by Falco and the other characters.

For me, at this point in time, too much couleur locale and not enough patience to read on.

Since this author has attended Oxford University, I'll take this book with me to Oxford and release it there.

I found the book during the BC Convention in Oxford. And I am going to do something I have never done before: I am going to change its status to pc. I am a huge Falco-Fan and this is the only book that's missing in my collection. The fact that Boekentrol wrote in her release note "you can keep it if you choose" puts my mind at ease ... a little...
Sorry for doing this and sorry because I'm journaling so late, I only arrived home tonight and during my time in England I had no access to a computer.
