" The sixth book in this bestselling series gives us Isabel, intrigue — both moral and financial — a fox bite, two engagements and at least one wedding!
While attending a second birthday party with her son, Charlie, Isabel meets Minty Auchterlonie, a ruthlessly ambitious high-flying financier who first appeared in The Sunday Philosophy Club. Minty heads a small investment bank and may or may not be deceiving her shareholders. Isabel faces a dilemma: she has information which could prevent the investors from being cheated — but how can she be sure of it?
Meanwhile, Isabel’s niece, Cat, becomes engaged to a stunt man who is also a funambulist. However, the fiancé is about to take up a highly dangerous engagement that Isabel fears will end in disaster, even as Isabel herself considers embarking on an extreme adventure of her own… "

It was the first and the last of McCall Smith books I read. Not that it is a bad one, just not my style.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
RABCK coming your way! :D I thought it was time to thank you for increasing my Harry Potter collection. Thank you so much! :D
This lovely surprise arrived in the mail today, thank you so much Nakipa! :D
Enjoyable as McCall Smith's books always, fast and light. Isabel Dalhousie's not my favourite character but I do like her better now that she's a mother of a small boy like me. :)
This will next travel to Chania through wishlist tag game (Finnish).

Delightful book! I like this series and even if the start was a bit slow, it was interesting and charming.
Sending to Kirjakko next.

Thank you for sending this wishlist book. I began my McCalls from Mma Ramotswe, which is very different from Isabel Dalhousies, but I've grown to like these as much if not even more. Looking forward to reading this once I've tackled all my promised tags.
Probably the only way to get to read this is to tag Annimanni... However I have some tbrs heading to Chania first, so Isabel Dalhousie joins the queue.
Oh, the problems philosophers have... Like the Cretan who said that all Cretans are liars which means by philosophers' standards that the statement cannot be true. Good Gracious, who says that liars need to lie all the time??
I wasn't listening at all when we had philosophy at school, but I had copied everything down from the blackboard. Then the night before the exam I started to learn these odd symbols and their 'laws'. At the exam I wrote an example of every theory we were asked to explain. When we were promised our exams back the teacher didn't show up. He taught us maths, too, and we were to have two lessons in a row, but he emerged from his own little cave (all other teachers shared a room, but this heavy smoker had a room of his own) just as the second lesson was ending, telling that he had been thinking the whole time. He had corrected our philosophy exams but it had taken him all this extra time to figure out if he should fail a student or call her a genius. What a stupid subject, I thought, if you can't tell the difference of a failed and a top performance. It turned out it had been my paper and I got the highest scores. So now you, too, know I'm a genious...
Mom once attended a party where my philosophy teacher was placed opposite to her. His opening line was: "Which one of us solves if these candles are burning or not?" pointing at some burning candles. Mom said "Oh no, you are not going to drag me into that soup", but he merely stated: "Actually we don't have to - they are burning."
Sometimes Isabel reminds me of my old teacher.
But Minty - gosh how she made my blood boil. I am quite revengeful when it comes to wronging me, but I'm a sissy. So I keep cursing and muttering and mulling the thing over and over again in my little head, which is silly, really, as hating somebody makes you feel very negative. It eats you out. I can't help the feeling and luckily it does not happen very often, but my workmate has witnessed a few of such cases over the years and says she'll do her best not to wrong me as for some reason something terrible seems to happen to those people. I do not practice woodoo, but oddly enough, my enemies have developed cancer, MS, burn out and the latest was a couple whose dog died two days later and cottage burned down the day after that... Being angryish to somebody has no greater effect on his /her wellbeing and I can't point the more serious anger to any wanted object (like a politician), it roots from something very personal. I hadn't noticed the casualties before my workmate pointed them out to me and I have to say that there are too many for it to be just a coincidence...
But Minty, I would definately have turned my evil eye towards her.

Received with thanks!
Thank you for the book, kind Bookcrossers!
I rather like this series of books even if there are not many events or happening in them. The atmosphere is peaceful like being on holiday. I took the book with me to Edinburgh.

Holyrood Abbey on entinen luostari Edinburghissa, Skotlannissa.
Holyrood Abbey is a ruined abbey of the Canons Regular in Edinburgh, Scotland. The abbey was founded in 1128 by King David I. During the 15th century, the abbey guesthouse was developed into a royal residence, and after the Scottish Reformation the Palace of Holyroodhouse was expanded further. The abbey church was used as a parish church until the 17th century, and has been ruined since the 18th century. The remaining walls of the abbey lie adjacent to the palace, at the eastern end of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. The site of the abbey is protected as a scheduled monument.
Osallistun tällä Puskailveksen Aikamatka-haasteeseen.
