9 out of 10

Three cousins, three very different lives touching each other in different ways, and three very different stories about what it means to be a Maori woman. In the background is the changing face of Maori identity in Aotearoa New Zealand - from the 1940s when Maori children were punished for speaking Maori at school, through the land marches and treaty claims of the 1970s and 80s, to the re-emergent pride in the culture and language of today. An amazing book, very complex, but very readable.

I think this one is worth sending out on a bookring. If you'd like to join, PM me.

Has arrived across the Tasman, and joins my bookray/ring pile...I am reading as much as I can whenever I have a second, I promise!!
This one appeals to me, because I love reading about other cultures.

An amazing, and sad story for these three women, and for the women around them too. Made me realise the plight of the Maori people, and the fact even though we are neighbours to New Zealand, I know so little about it's history and the experiences of the Maori people since white settlement.
I will send this off tomorrow, so that the Cousins can continue their journey.
