What a Carve Up! (Penguin Celebrations)

Telling the stories of the wealthy Winshaw family, WHAT A CARVE UP! is a riveting social satire on the chattering and all-powerful upper classes.
I thought this was a brilliant read; scathing & hilariously funny in turn. The chapter on Dorothy Winshaw was disturbing to read, particularly from my veggie perspective, but the scene in which Michael tries to 'sex' up his book is fab!

Thanks, cally-c! Even though I'm in the middle of 3 other books at the moment, I somehow got hooked on this one as soon as it arrived this morning, and by this evening I'm 150 pages in. I'm enjoying it immensely. :-)
I'm so used to books sitting on the shelf for a year or two (or more) before finally getting to them, but this one grabbed me from the outset. Loved it!
Satire of the Thatcher years. Painfully true. I enjoyed the layers of mystery and the connections and coincidences throughout the book. And the theme of film vs real-life, culminating in the real-life enactment of a film.
The complete change of pace in the last 100 pages shouldn't have worked, but totally did for me.

Very interesting - took me a while to read this, but it was good! I liked the fact how things were connected and how everything dropped on its place gradually.
