I got this two-volume manga at Harrison's Comics in the Pheasant Lane Mall - it's about a group of people trapped underneath a collapsed building during a Tokyo earthquake. [Written several years before the recent massive earthquake...]

Later: The events of Volume One left Mishima, our hapless hero, stranded in the ruins of a subway station below the skyscraper in which he worked, with a group of survivors who depend on him (when they aren't squabbling) - and with another group of vicious and aggressive people who've claimed the best location and the available food and water for themselves. Mashima's group finds an unexpected food supply, but word gets to the other group and the situation escalates - with some truly frightening threats and violence, a real-life nightmare scenario.

Will our hero prevail? Will rescue arrive from outside? Is there even an "outside" left? Some truly marvelous plotting occurs, with intriguing character interactions from the survivors, and tantalizing pacts and betrayals - I was on the edge of my seat. And the conclusion - well, I'll just say I found it supremely satisfying. (There's also a bonus chapter that flashes back to fill in some details about certain characters at the time of the quake.)

Volume One

There were some graphic scenes that made me think, this is a Gory book alright!
Thanks for sharing. Definitely something out of my regular genre but I look forward to it. On first glance I thought it will be something similar to the Firefighter manga (which I like) but after reading a bit not as close as I expected.

Read this for the Reading Through the End of the World and Beyond Read-a-thon on BookObsessed. Thankfully the world hasn't ended but I think I have enough apocalyptic tales for a while.

I expect the story to continue on with more adventures trying to find a way out of the wreckage of a building, instead the characters were mostly staying in the same location, trying to exist with another group of survivors till help arrives. There is more violence than I anticipated. It's scary how easy human can turn violent, although time and again researches have proved that it doesn't take a lot for "civilized" people to go feral.

Saving this for the manga box which I believe will be coming soon.
