Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw
5 journalers for this copy...
I had this for a class at USF, but I don't remember which one or why we didn't read it. Or maybe we did and I just slacked as usual. In any event, *I* never read it and no longer feel that I will just read it on my spare time, so it's available.
Heading to the Gingko OBCZ in St. Paul, Minnesota!
Wow. I know someone who HAS to read this book. Thanks to fleury this book showed up in Minnesota for the OBCZ shelves. From the back, this is the hunt for Pablo Escobar that US intelligence sponsored, which 'sucess' led to the spread of Meth labs and distribution throughout the Heartland. See Methland: the death and life of a small American town http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/8663893/ Thanks for the book...

Picked up for the 666 challenge: Columbia. Fits in well with Methland, http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/8663893/ , a thoughtful look at how the 'heartland' has suffered the scourges of cleaning up the Columbian Cartels and globalization.
A journalist's account of the background of Pablo Escobar and the rapid growth of the Colimbian cartels. He then goes on the trace out why Escobar generated a manhunt that eventually ended in Escobar being shot down. Sensitively told, the author is carful to give a nuanced portrait of the institutions, society, and economics of how one man could ascend to such ruthless heights through terrorizing any who opposed him. Like many Amercans I came to this story with a mental eyeroll, if the Columbian government was really serious about the cartels... and left the story with more understanding and sympathy for Columbia and its struggles. Here in our own country some elements talk about 'targeting' activist judges. They should read this book and take heed of the consequences of their speech.

Arrived in BookLady331's "Already Been Crossed Bookbox." (Link) Popped back in the box to continue its journey!
The ABC box arrived at my home this afternoon. I am planning on keeping this book to read. Not sure if I will read it or not but I have too many books for the Virtual Bookbox that I am doing.
I never heard of Pablo Escobar until I read this book. There isn't much more to add to what has already been written. I offered this up as a RABCK and no one, at this time, wanted this book. I am going to give it to a student who likes reading this kind of book.
