"The Adderhead--his immortality bound in a book by Meggie's father, Mo--has ordered his henchmen to plunder the villages. The peasants' only defense is a band of outlaws led by the Bluejay--Mo's fictitious double, whose identity he has reluctantly adopted. But the Book of Immortality is unraveling, and the Adderhead again fears the White Women of Death. To bring the renegade Bluejay back to repair the book, the Adderhead kidnaps all the children in the kingdom, dooming them to slavery in his silver mines unless Mo surrenders. First Dustfinger, now Mo: Can anyone save this cursed story?"

Received via PaperBackSwap. (Unabridged on 16 CD's; read by Allan Corduner)

5 out of 10

It saddens me to say that I can't write a full review on this book because I couldn't push myself to finish it. It's been a while since I've read books 1 & 2 in this series, and although I wouldn't say I loved them, I did enjoy them & was looking forward to seeing how the third book in the trilogy wrapped things up. I started this on unabridged audio (16 discs), but after less then 2 discs, I gave up. I suppose part of my problem was that it had been too long since reading the previous book, and I had a lot of trouble orienting myself to character & plot at the beginning of this one. I assumed that would resolve itself once I got into the story a little more, but the storyline dragged so much that I had no desire to try. Had there not been 16 discs sitting there, I may have plodded on, but after struggling through almost the first two, I didn't see the point of wasting more time. My guess is that the story picked up further in. This is one instance where perhaps an abridged edition may have been helpful. However, after reading some other reviews, I see many other readers disappointed in this 3rd installment. I may never know how it all ended, but I'm okay with that.
