This was pretty good - a fast easy read and I am a sucker for retold or fractured fairy tales. Thanks for sharing katayoun - I will be bringing this to the next Calgary Bookcrossing meeting at the Joshua Tree Cafe in April

This was a great retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I actually really liked that Belle, in this version, wasn't really that beautiful. Most retellings of Beauty and the Beast are supposed to talk about how beauty isn't important and that it's what inside that counts. Except that in most of those, Beauty is really, stunningly beautiful. Having Belle selected on the basis of her talents makes it more equitable.

Wow! When I saw that this book was registered in Tehran, I was surprised! I read with interest the journey of this little book and now I will move it up on my TBR pile.

Picked this up at June's Meeting.
This one was alright. I read it after "The Martian" though so it really didn't feel all that smart (not that I was expecting smart) but kind of a let down. Unfortunate choice of follow up book I guess because I imagine I really would have enjoyed it if it had followed something else.

Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing May meet-up. The premise of a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast sounded interesting.
I'm going to be truthful: I did not enjoy this book. I've always had my issues with "Beauty and the Beast", though, so that probably coloured my opinion as well. Falling in love with a guy you just met has never been a favourite trope of mine. I don't understand why Belle falls for the Beast; she just realizes she loves him with very little explanation. The whole thing with Belle and how her name doesn't match her face bothered me as well. That took up more of the story than her meeting the Beast. Had she met the Beast earlier and the story spent more time on them, then maybe I would have liked this book more.
