I became a manics fan around the release of Holy Bible, at about the age of 15/16. I found this book fascinating and not totally centred on Richey, which I've felt other pieces to do in the past. I also loved the 'theory' chapters, particularly the ones looking at Wales at the time of the band's birth. The detail included in the book was good and made me get the cds out and give them a whirl all over again (much to my neighbour's disgust!) Is being posted on to Tanis today.

This turned up at the end of last week but I haven't had time to journal it until now, sorry. I am just finishing something else and will start this next week. The Manics are one of my favourite bands so I'm really looking forward to this one. Thanks for lending it to me Robert.

This is on its way to Citrus now. I did read as much of it as I could but it really only served to remind me how much I hate music journalists. I've had nothing but the Manics on the ole Walkman all week and that can only be a Good Thing.

Off on its way to chelseagirl today. Thank you to everyone for your patience. This was a fascinating read. It took awhile to get used to the author's style - very wordy but well worth the effort. Thanks to robertwalker for sharing the book!

Journal Entry 11 by chelseagirl from Faringdon, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 11, 2005
So sorry I've had this one for so long ... but I've finally got round to reading it! This is definitely one of the better music biographies around - normally I find them badly written, inaccurate and tedious, but this one really seems to capture the spirit of the band and has lots of interesting stuff about them. The chapters on Richey's disappearance is especially well-handled but manages not to be the focal centre of the group. And like everyone else, I've jsut had to dig out all the albums while I've been reading - it's sad in a way to see how they've become yet another stadium rock band, when they were so fresh and exciting when they started. I guess old age catches up on us all some time. Thanks for organising this ring, robert-walker, and again, sorry for taking so long to read this. I'll psot it back as soon as I know where it's going!
