Room: A Novel

bought with a Border's gift card for the TLC book club
A book club read that's very different - an abducted girl, but the book is told from her 5yo child's viewpoint of "room" in the first half, and "outside" after their Great Escape in the second half. An easy enough read, but in between the lines, very emotional.
Found the BCID - don't know how I missed this the first time. Thanks again for this wishlist book, Nancynova!
This is a very good novel. Jack has just turned five and his mother begins to see that they need to escape from the room that they've lived in his entire life. She was kidnapped at 19 and raped. The book is really in two parts - their life in Room and their life after. This is so touching and emotional - the characters of Ma and Jack are so finely drawn. You see their strength that they draw from their love of each other, during captivity and after.
Will give to a friend then make available.

An extreamly disturbing book. But how could it not be considering the subject matter?
I know the author was trying to write from a five year olds view but she made him extreamly intelligent then gave him the language of a three year old.
Overall a good read. Thanks again for the tag.

Leave it to one of my favorite old BC friends to spot this on my wishlist! Thank you, Cyn, for the nice surprise, the chat, and all of the nifty labels!!
Wow! From page one it's gripping, totally believable, amazing. The amount of thought, introspection, and creativity it takes to invent this world is... stupefying. Despite the rough subject matter, I had a hard time putting it down each night.
Sending to Tucson High for a trade bookshelf. Hope someone enjoys it as much as I did.
