The powerful story of Miep Gies, one of the Dutch citizens who hid Anne Frank, her family and several family friends from the Nazis during World War II, in an attic above Anne's father's place of business. She discovered and preserved Anne’s diary after the Franks were arrested.
I read Anne Frank’s Diary many years ago, but I didn’t feel the grimness and hopelessness of life, as I did in this book. I felt the suffering of not only the Jews, but of the Dutch people under German occupation. Miep says she is not a hero, but I disagree. She encompasses what courage and the human spirit is all about.
