This is my debut novel. It is a fast-paced mystery/suspense novel. The story revolves around Seth Anderson, a University of Wisconsin graduate student, who has just uncovered several secret encrypted messages on the Internet that may implicate his new girlfriend in a series of seemingly unconnected murders throughout the Midwest. Unfortunately, for him, that's the good news. The bad news is he's just become the scapegoat in the Assassins Game. And while the body count rises around him, he'll need to figure out the true motive for the killings and who's behind them before the game ends, because unbeknownst to the players, the losers don't get to play again...ever.

For more information on this book, see my website www.stephen-johnson.com

This is a mystery/suspense novel that I've written and self-published. I'm sending this one one a bookray to introduce it to the world.

What's a bookray and how does it work?

A bookray is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. A bookray book is released into the wild once that last person is finished with it.

To join this bookray (or any other bookray of mine) please private message me. I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case it's changed since you got the book.

Once you are a bookray member, you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you've received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please), and journal again with your thoughts, ideas, or opinions on it. You'll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it's cheaper!) and make a release note so that we can track it. Then sit back and watch the journey continue!

The members are as follows (mailing order may change as new participants are added). Participant in green has the book, those in red have already read the book:

Hi Stephen... got your book today and am looking forward to reading it! This week's crazy at work but I hope to get to it next week (and will report back when I've read some and have intelligent thoughts). Thanks again for sharing!

I read this during my recent Las Vegas vacation and want to thank Stephen for sharing it. It's a quick read -- very Grisham-esque (although a touch more believable in most cases :) ). It's challenging to write a mystery/suspense novel without breaks in logic, and I was quite impressed with how easily (and logically) Assasin's Game flowed (while still keeping me guessing). Thanks for sharing Stephen... I'll get this off to Aunt K ASAP.

HI! The book has landed in my airspace and I'm looking forward to reading it!

I'm about 2/3rds through with this book and it has me totally hooked! I have to admit a fondness for the geeky, computer type and this book really has me wanting to read more and more... I have been working really long hours and I find myself falling asleep over it, waking up, reading another page or two... (yep, it's THAT compelling!) I still don't trust Alicia, but... I'm not the trusting type!!! ::Laugh:: I can't wait to finish this (and see what's gonna happen!)

Finally finished... and I must say, I really enjoyed this read, not just because the author was kind enough to send it to me! I won't spoil the ending, but lets just say it was close, really close. Stephen, your book was fantastic, the guy was just computer geeky enough, just clever enough, just enough of a good guy... and your assassins were smarmy, and a force to be reckoned with! Your writing is smooth and forceful, you are a superb storyteller and I can hardly wait to see what you come up with next! My only regret is that this is a bookray and I won't have time to lend it to my mother... and my friend... and my sister... and my dad.... and my brother-in-law...

Arrived in Thursday's mail. I drug it with me doing errands both Friday and yesterday -- couldn't put it down. It reminded me of a cozier Jeff Deavers due to the plot twists and clever double- triple- crosses. [Can't go too far discussing this without giving too much away.]

I finished it this morning and regretted that it was over. There seems to be a bit of hope for a sequel in the ending, maybe? PM'd BusyBookLover for her address.

Well done, Stephen. I really enjoyed your book. It's a very impressive first novel.

Two minor quibbles. [I always quibble...] 1) I feel that the front cover art and back cover blurb together give away a major plot point and 2) there were at least three gramatically incorrect commas that were distracting enough for me to lose the story flow. Me: "Say what?? ...reread, reread ... oh, they must have stuck an extra comma in here for some reason. Bother! On with the story..." Other than that, I've no complaints. Well done! Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy this.

This arrived in mail today- (Thanks AmberLee17!) I am counting the hours until I get the kids to bed so I can start it! Although, by the sounds of it-- I'll be sorry tomorrow when I'm bleary-eyed from reading into the night! My First comment is thanks for sending the Trade sized PB-- this is my favorite format! More comments to follow when I finish.

My inlaws have been here for a 3 week stay and ironically-- they went to Arizona to visit family for 2 days--with the house empty I quickly grabbed this book and was buried in the story loving every minute of it. It was a clever plot and I liked that Seth was not a cliche computer geek. I decided if I were casting the parts-- I would pick Shane West (A Walk to Remember) to play Seth. Alicia is a bit more challenging-- hmmm... still thinking. Thanks for sharing I hope there is a next one soon!
