International BookCrossing Day is done. Wilderwoman and I released 182 books in 15 locations* in 6 cities. Got done about midnight. We were gone for 8 hours and ate out 3 times. We were pooped. But we had fun!

Links to the release sites to be added when the site is working properly again. Right now it is too slow to do *any* release notes.

* ETA: the 15 locations included 2 OBCZs and 4 LFLs if I counted right.

** ETA: looks like I counted the releases wrong, I think it's 181 releases for the two of us, not 182.

Today is BookCrossing Day, a fine day for some releases. If you release any books today, please tell us about it here, we'd love to read it!

I've left several books at this post office, apart from the ones I've, posted but with no luck, so far, with catches. Here's hoping that this will be the exception to celebrate bookcrossing day. I did mention them to a member of staff once and she said that she'd seen them around and assured me that they wouldn't be thrown out but may be taken to a charity shop if they sat there for a long time. It's a very busy "main" PO so I expect they are being picked up.
EDITED 5.5.2017- to say
YESSS-it did get caught! Have another look at the link....

Happy BookCrossing Day everyone!

I left a book called "Waiting" under an arch where everyone waits for friends & family when they are out shopping!
I also spent some time looking round second hand book shops and bought about a dozen books to register and wild release. That includes a book I have been after for sometime which I would like to start as a bookring. :)

Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate BookCrossing!

These ground were shaped during the last iceage. This was more or less where the glacier ended, so there is for Dutch degrees quite a climb cycling the mudwall it created at its base.

This last book is by a Dutch girl who traveled the world with cards and pencils and asked everyone she met to draw a happy memory. Prints of those cards are collected in this book.

And this was released at a deerfarm, where yound children or people like me with an inner child can see and feed deer.

I've released three books today, two with my lovely new BookCrossing Day labels and one with a handwritten label as I registered it last week before the labels came.

I did some driving today, to leave books in several different towns (and a couple of states).

Today turned out to be rather raw and very rainy, so it wasn't the most friendly outdoor-releasing weather. On the other hand, it meant that I could usually find parking, as so few other people were out and about today {wry grin}. I left books near a newspaper office, a TV station, a brew-pub, and assorted scenic spots; also left a few books in Little Free Libraries. Due to the weather they were all in plastic bags, save for the LFL releases and one or two that I was able to leave indoors - but I did make use of the bags to hang a few from trees!

All releases wild, all with photos, roughly in coolest-photo-first order:

1. Wildflowers Around the Year ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441090/ ), left near a lighthouse on the Maine coast. [UPDATE: Got a lovely catch on this one!]

2. Reaper Man ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14508016/ ), left near a historical burying ground in Portsmouth NH. (It's one of my favorite Discworld books, and I only started reading that series thanks to comments in the BC forums. I figured I just *had* to include Discworld book in today's releases.) [UPDATE: caught!]

3. Gaudy Night ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14490870/ ), left near a statue commemorating the young women who worked in the mills in the 19th century. The "Lord Peter" books are among my favorites, so I wanted to include one of those in today's releases.

4. The Complete Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/4186275/ ), one of my earliest registered books, long a "PC"-status keeper-copy; in honor of the day, I decided to release it, and took the opportunity to leave it near a fascinating sculpture that I've often driven past but never used as a release site before.

5. Wild Fermentation: The Flavor, Nutrition, and Craft of Live-Culture Foods ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14437410/ ) - I left this one in a Portsmouth brew-pub, as part of the book deals with home brewing. And I love brew-pubs!

6. Just an Ordinary Day ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441089/ ) is a collection of Shirley Jackson stories, some hilarious, some disturbing. I adore her work, and wanted to include her in my releases today.

7. Garden Sky ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14361256/ ), and...
8. Wild Ones ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14448399/ ); these are both manga, which I've gotten very fond of over the years. Had to release some manga today!

9. Reading in Bed: Personal Essays on the Glories of Reading ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14111437/ ), because reading in bed is the *best*! [UPDATE: Caught!]

10. The Thief Lord ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14484954/ ), which I first heard about via its BookCrossing placement, and really enjoyed.

11. Anatomy of a Rose ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/10516959/ ), which came from the Biographies of Things bookbox - in memory of BCer MaryZee, who started it years ago. I wanted to include a book-from-other-BCers in today's releases. [UPDATE: Another catch!]

12. Wildly into the Dark: Typewriter Poems and the Rattlings of a Curious Mind ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441113/ ) - this one's a book of poetry, another genre I thought it'd be fun to account for.

13. Wild Inferno ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441110/ ) is an example of a book that I picked up purely because it qualified for a release challenge (the "In the Wild" one), and found to be much more interesting than I'd expected.

I also released several classics, including:

14. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14505261/ )

15. Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14448404/ )

16. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441098/ )

17. The Call of the Wild ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441104/ )

And some not-classic-yet children's books:

18. Wild in Africa! ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14441095/ )

19. Spirit Animals: Wild Born ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14484942/ )

Yeah, that's not the best of birthday gifts! And Ardik is at the Convention. But he's been notified, and he's on the case.

I've enjoyed seeing quite a few International BC Day releases made by BCers who don't frequent the forums, as well as by those who do!

At a meeting for camper travel consultants.
The first day , one book was taken.
On the end of the second day, before going home, there was this woman looking through them.
Tja, she said, I like to take some but I'm doing this myself, and I have so many books to get rid of.
Hesitant and lingerend. Mr C cut to the chase and said: Why don't you take the whole basket and bring it back with the books you want to go.
So we exchangend and that is how I met fellow Bookcrosser omaleest from Begium and this made my BookCrossing day international :-)
