A Massive Thank You To AllI have only been a member of this wonderful community for a couple of weeks but already it feels like longer. I happened across it while browsing through a friends profile on GoodReads and thought it looked interesting so signed myself up. At first I wasn't sure where to look, after asking my friend her key advice was get involved with the forums particularly the RABCK forum, I followed her advice and quickly found myself the winner of 3 books! I was astounded that complete strangers would generously volunteer to post me a book, their only condition that I enjoy it and pass it on when I was finished! Buoyed by this I then explored the Bookring forum and joined a couple (eagerly awaiting my turn), then I found the sweepstakes and exchanges and joined in with these too. The icing on the cake was yesterday, I came home from work and found my first 2 bookcrossing books waiting for me! While happily flicking through I found to my joy that bookcrossing supplies and postcards had been included by the senders. Such a small token put a smile on my face for the rest of the day!
I cannot express enough how welcome I have been made to feel and how excited I am to be part of this community (this is more than a book club)! I am not usually one for voluntarily talking to strangers but I am not a stranger here, I am a bookcrosser and I look forward to being one for many years to come :)

I'm so glad that you are feeling welcome here. It is a wonderful community. I feel many are friends even though I've never met them. (And of course those that I have).
If there is a meeting, a Convention, an UnConvention (any convention other than the "official" annual one each year) that you can go to, try that too. More friends to meet. : )

Sadly I am not around for the UK Unconvention this year but I will definitely look into it next year, I may need to invest in a sturdier bookshelf first though!

There may be local meetings in your area though. Sadly we don't have them in my area at the moment, but check out where you live.

Yes, you must get a sturdier bookcase. I thought bookcrossing would help me reduce my number of books but it has done exactly the opposite. And beware of bookrings - they travel in packs. You think you've spread them out and then 2 (or more) arrive at once. Pity you can't make it to the Birmingham Uncon, I've just booked my train tickets. See you soon, hopefully.

Congratulations on joining. I've been a member for over ten years, and I look forward to hearing of your new adventures. You sound like an enthusiastic person, despite your claims of not voluntarily talking to strangers. I hope sometime to have the time and means to attend a convention, and perhaps i will see you there!
