I was passing on a book to someone I didn't know, sending texts back and forth to set up a handoff, and was trying to think of a way to casually and concisely explain all the stickers and things in the book without sounding like a fanatic. The best I could come up with is "book tracking game". But it isn't really a game. A "book tracking website" sounds like government surveillance. "Book traking club" maybe? How would you describe Bookcrossing in just a few words?
The German language has the advantage to create really long nouns by adding them. That way I only need 2 words ;-) lebensverändernde Buchreiseverfolgungsinternetgemeinschaft (lifechanging booktraveltrackinginternetcommunity)
This is a cool exercise, because I think BC means different things to each person. Some people are in it for the hunt, some love releasing books, some enjoy sharing stories, some like to follow the books' journeys online. And I'm sure there are many more motives!
