Banned Book Week Reading Challenge!

Banned Book Week occurs here in the USA next month from September 30th through October 6th. What better way to celebrate Banned Book Week than by organizing a Banned Book Reading Challenge? My goal is to encourage readers to read one banned book during Banned Book Week. If you have time to read more than one banned book during this time frame, then by all means go for it!

Wikipedia has published a list of most commonly challenged books in the United States, which is a good starting point to search for a book to read for Banned Book Week. Also check out the American Library Association website for a list of banned and challenged books.

If you don't live in the USA, it would be great to have readers from other countries read books that have been challenged or banned in their own country.

I will be reading I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou during Banned Book Week. Join me in reading a banned book during Banned Book Week.

End censorship!! Ban ignorance, not books! Let there be Freedom to read what we want! :-)

I'll probably wind up reading a few such books, though most of the ones I'm planning to release for the Banned Books Week release challenge ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/479923 ) are books I've already read. Still, I'm always surprised to find new titles that happen to be on someone's banned or challenged list; in fact, it's probably harder to find books that haven't ever been challenged {wry grin}.

I think I did this a couple of years ago. Thanks for the reminder of the dates.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/permanentcollection/?... ETA link no longer good. all released. for list now see http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/479923

This list is one I've compiled from collecting for the banned books challenge, mentioned by GoryDetails. In each journal I've noted where and when it's been banned. There are so many books out there, I organized my bookshelf as 'permanent collection' the books that have been banned or challenged.

I looked at the list. Even though I have read many of the books on the list The Lovely Bones is the only banned book that I have through bcing so I guess I will be reading that one during the week. I highly doubt I would get it done for I don't have much time to read right now but The Lovely Bones will be read during banned book week.
