Anybody else see The Breadwinner?

Animated film based on the book by Deborah Ellis
More info about the book and movie trailer here: http://deborahellis.com/---/books

Saw it this weekend and thought it was gorgeous!

I must have read the book before joining BC (since it's not on my shelf here) but remembered the premise (and this cover image: https://www.scholastic.com/---/the-breadwinner-by-deborah-ellis ).

This is a story of life under the harsh restrictions of the Taliban: women and girls are almost completely helpless without a male to help them, so when Parvana's father is arrested, she ends up disguising herself as a boy to help her family survive.

I admired Parvana's courage and determination, but the film also reminded me to be grateful for the opportunities I've had in my life.

though I haven't read that particular title, I had read others by her. I would like to see this film. Thanks for putting it on my radar.

I forgot to mention (only learned it when I looked at her website) that Deborah Ellis is a Canadian author...but I bet you knew that. :)

:-)

I recently (just a month ago or so) read another book by her about children and AIDS in Africa. In the book , she met with and let the children speak. Heart-breaking but at the same time, inspirational. It was called *Our Stories, Our Songs* and it isn't new (published about 10 years ago or so, I think).
