A Monster Calls

I saw the film ( http://www.imdb.com/---/combined ) today, and found it very effective - a good adaptation of the book ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11547715 ), with some excellent performances by the cast.

Given the nature of the story - a young boy, consumed with worry over his mother's battle with cancer - I wondered if it would find its audience; the previews (and title) tend to emphasize the monster, who is indeed very scary (and very cool), but it isn't a monster movie in the usual sense. Definitely worth watching - though I still recommend the book over the film.

but missed the film. Hope to see it at some point even if only on DVD.
