The Magicians

Not a movie, but a mini-series, based on Lev Grossman's "Magicians" trilogy. I read The Magician King ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/13867590 ),the second book, a while back, and found it entertaining and surprisingly dark, with a heavy reliance on Fillory, a Narnia-like world that's also a lot darker than the one in the books. Hogwarts also gets a shoutout in the series, both for the "secret magical school for wizards" bit and for the in-character jokes like shouting "Avada Kadavra" - so this is a world in which the Harry Potter books exist but the Narnia books are actually a series about Fillory.

I only watched a couple of episodes for work, didn't have the time to catch-up with the rest on my own time, but I liked the dark themes and humour.
Are the books equally dark and witty? Well, the one that you read, at least?

Maybe I should add them to my reading list.

Yes, definitely! And Season 3 is about to start (in the US, anyway), featuring a sea-going quest - looks like it'll feature more events from Magician King, though the series doesn't always map onto the books exactly. Looking forward to it!

We're finding it really enjoyable and I'm thinking about looking for the books.
