War and Peace

I first read the novel some years back ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/1640508 ), thanks to a Book Talk forum readalong. At the time I'd only seen one screen adaptation, the very-much-Hollywood-ized 1956 film by King Vidor ( http://www.imdb.com/---/combined ), but I eventually came across Sergey Bondarchuk's magnificent and very faithful 1966 film/mini-series ( http://www.imdb.com/---/combined ), which I strongly recommend.

I'm posting this because a new mini-series adaptation ( http://www.imdb.com/---/combined ) is airing its first episode on US TV tonight. I plan to tune in, and will see how it compares to Bondarchuk's version AND to the book!

We've just had the third episode here which I think has been the best so far - I was a little unsure at first.
