South London books available

Does anyone need books in the area for a bookcrossing zone. I have some available but will be clearing out more soon and want to know that I have somewhere to take them. I cannot pay to sent them by post. I can deliver locally or can be collected.

Do we have a national guide of bookcrossing zones anywhere? There used to be one.

Yes, they are clearly indicated on Go Hunting, on the province/state level and city level.

Ok, I know they are there, but you have to drill in to find them. There were in the past lists weren't they and a map I seem to recall.

Yes, there was a map, but it was member-maintained and eventually stopped being maintained at all. The Go Hunting pages aren't the most practical listing, but they're the most complete and up to date one.

RE: Maps

You could have a look at these. They include many OBCZs but like BookCrossing they are only as good as the members that update them.

Unfortunately the Brunel Museum bookcrossing point is no longer... There is a local pub that welcomes and encourages book reading and sharing but I've not talked to them about bookcrossing - yet - I may broach it with them but don't think I've got time in the immediate future.

Where exactly in South London are you? There is a phone box library in Lewisham. There is a bar/deli in London Bridge with lots of half full bookshelves (Absolutely Starving). There are plenty of pub window sills and hospital waiting rooms that could do with a few more books!

I am in Streatham. I'm about to clear out quite a lot of books, I could probably do the Lewisham one if there is adequate parking. London Bridge is reachable if I am going that way but probably can't get the car near for a load. I set one up in Sydenham at Kente Coffee Shop but it is in the basement and not used a lot. I know there is one at the Ritzy or there was, I will take a bundle there. I had one in South Norwood Lake and Park which I used to feed regularly but sadly kids were taking the books and burning them so the parkkeepers made us close it. I found one the other day at the Tram Stop Cafe in Addiscombe but he was full.

Thank you for those leads. Anyone is welcome to email me if they want some. karenlongneck@gmail.com. My husband is putting pressure on me to clear my stock.

It's been a little while but I think that the Ritzy one is still there as it had been moved but not discarded when I went last. Yes I think that the place on Tooley St is not good for parking. A better place would be the British School of Osteopathy, where they have a quite big book shelf in their waiting room. That's on Southwark Bridge Road. This is the phone box library in Lewisham. I've often been past on the bus but not stopped so can't report on its usage: https://www.facebook.com/Lewishammicrolibrary

If I have any other bright ideas I'll let you know!

I'm sure other BCers would love to pick through your offerings.
