Wrong failure message when registering a book

I've just registered a book and received a message saying that there have been problems with my entries and that I have to try again.
So I did and now I see that the book has been registered twice:
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14403541
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14403544

What I did was:
Entering the (German) ISBN and searching via amazon.de -> result without book cover
Changing the search modus to amazon.com (still with the same ISBN) -> same result but now including the book cover and with changed ISBN
So when the error message showed up I changed the author's name from Linda A. Fairstein to Linda Fairstein and I changed the automatically filled out ISBN back to the one that I used for my search

To make a long story short: Is this a known problem (I remember a problem with book covers) or did I do anything wrong?

Oh, and can the support team please delete this one: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14403541 ?

You most likely did nothing wrong. I've been seeing this problem for more than a year.

Rather than deleting it, you can recycle it - next time you have a book to register, just use that BCID and edit the book-details and JE to match the new book.

No, they have no means of deleting a book.

Ok, than I will re-use the number for another book in a few days.

Thanks!

I also get such failure messages sometimes, but they are wrong.
the books have been registered all right
scrolling down a little bit - there I can see the BCID

now I ignore these wrong failure messages
but I hope the problem will disappear soon

I agree, they are confusing. It will be great to see them gone.

Remember to always check the book is registered. Today I had the message and the book was indeed NOT registered at all ...

Ah, but *also* remember to allow some time before assuming the book did not get registered. Today I got an error during registration, and while I was able to use the browser's "back" button to get back to the registration page with all the data and journal-entry content, I remembered the duplicate-book situation. Instead of trying to re-register right away, I used another tab to view my bookshelf to see if the book was there after all. Nope, no sign of it. So I went ahead and re-registered the book registered a few more books, viewed my bookshelf and saw only one copy of the error-message one. So far, so good.

Two hours later I view my bookshelf and lo! there are two copies of that book - the one I saw the first time (the one with the BCID I wrote into the book) and another with the immediately-previous BCID, which had apparently been hiding in the site's update-cache until I wasn't looking {wry grin}.

I always have more books on hand to register, and can easily edit the details on that one to re-use the excess BCID, but if I hadn't noticed and had wild-released the book without writing down its BCID on the assumption that I could see it at the top of my bookshelf, I might have been stuck not knowing which of the two BCIDs was the correct one...

All that said, if no book appears on the bookshelf within a minute or two after an error-in-registration, I'd be inclined to re-register it anyway, knowing I could recycle a duplicate if one appears. But it is a very bizarre error when the gap between operations and visible data is so long!
