52 towns in 52 weeks challenge 2016

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only one page."

(The rules stay the same as last year.)

Bookcrossing is about letting books travel. Travel with books, travel for books. Make this a world of travelling books.
Go where you never went before, and find the surprises waiting there for you. Leave a book to be the next visitors surprise.

What's this challenge?
----------------------

The goal of this challenge is to release books in at least 52 different towns throughout the year 2016. This is an average of one per week, but doesn't need to be one each week.
You're welcome to join also if you're sure you won't make the 52 - just try and make it as many as possible.

Some rules...
-------------

* You can join the challenge at any time, and also count books you released before joining as long as they were released in 2016.
* Wild, OBCZ and geocache releases count.
* Controlled releases and meetup handovers do not count.
* Public transport vehicles can't usually be assigned to one town because the vehicle will leave the city limits. They don't count, then. Just release another book at the station and you're fine ;)
* You need to release the books yourself at the place in question. You cannot release a book "to" some place, but only "at" some place. It's always the place where the book leaves YOUR hand which counts.
* Geocaches count for the town where the box lies, also if the listing coordinates are somewhere else.
* Of course you can visit the same places as in previous years again. New year, new challenge.
* Please include at least the following in your posts: Sequential number, country, state/province/region and name of the town, and a link to the books journal. Please, also the US and UK citizens mention the country in each post!
* Please post only one release for each town. If you release more than one book, choose one freely.
* Report as many releases as available in one posting, but don't add new towns by editing old postings because people won't notice there's something new then.
* If you like, you may also track catches.
* You're welcome to explore the release spot surroundings and report about your adventures along with the release.

1/1/16; My husband and I joked about just how Canadian this release is-- Anne of Green Gables (the quintessential Canadian novel) released at Tim Horton's (a coffee shop that, as a nation, we're obsessed with) on a snowy day in Niagara Falls (one of our most famous places)! If only a hockey rink was somehow involved :-p

The book was gone when we passed by again later and there are lots of people from all over in town to celebrate the new year... I am eager/hopeful to see where my book has gone!

The last time I tried this ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7439365 ), I used zip codes to help me define "towns" ... and there aren't anywhere near 52 on my island! (I got up to 37, partly because I rented a car on my trip and made it a point to find places to release books during that time.)

I'll use a slightly modified version of the list I used before, which will give me 19 towns and 8 military bases (to which I have very limited access) on Oahu.

I usually get off-island once a year. So I'll set my goal at 26 and see if I make it!
Profile Image
Started with the easiest location again. In theory I _could_ have released a book in Kaneohe just after midnight, but a residential neighborhood in the middle of the night doesn't seem like the ideal place/time...

24/1/16; My husband's best friend is getting married next month and I am one of her bridesmaids! I keep thinking these days about a book I liked when I was little-- the Baby-Sitters Club book "Kristy's Big Day" (in which Kristy is a bridesmaid), so I decided that I needed to bookcross a copy while I was back in the town where my husband grew up doing bridesmaid stuff (his best friend still lives there). I left it by the drink station in a McDonald's during a quick stop on the way out of town. The manager saw it very quickly and my husband overheard him tell the counter girl to go get it and put it in the lost-and-found, but apparently when she picked it up she saw the label on it and seemed excited about it; I overheard her reading it out loud afterwards to her co-workers! I am hoping for a good ending to that, rather than the book languishing in the lost-and-found!

Ach so, du findest 16 viel?

Hmmm...

It depends on whether you aprove Monte Carlo as separate place. Officially Monaco is a city-state, but in BC was Monte Carlo already indicated separately.
Only the (recent) past (1954) the three municipalities, each with its separate administrative apparatus have been centralized.

I thought it would be cool to mention the oldest district of Monaco-Ville (where the royal palace stands and Grace Kelly is buried) and Monte Carlo (often called loose) separately, as was already done within the BC-release locations. But it's up to you if this counts for this challenge. :-)

I didn't realise that Schiphol was a town too, I just thought the airport was in Amsterdam; I wish I'd have known when I was there! It makes sense-- I live near Toronto and Toronto's main airport is not technically in Toronto either, its address is actually in Mississauga. And my husband flies out of CYKF which everyone calls either Kitchener or Waterloo but is, in fact, in a tiny town called Breslau-- I guess I just didn't think about it at the time! I will have to make a mental note for future trips to NL (and, for that matter, I should make a mental note to check the airports' addresses on all my travels)!

It depends on whether you aprove Monte Carlo as separate place. Officially Monaco is a city-state, but in BC was Monte Carlo already indicated separately.

Whether BC divides it or not, is irrelevant for this challenge. BC has a fixed four level hierarchy (country-province-city-crossing zone). In some areas one of these levels does not exist, though. Where not all levels are needed, usually the remaining ones are used for further divisions. Examples: The cities of Wien (Vienna), Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen are each one state for themselves with no other cities in the state, so the "city" level of BC is used to sort the zones into districts.

Also, people file a lot of nonsense to the BC databases and not every country is well-maintained by the region managers.

So if there is no division on a municipality level, i.e. everything is legally one municipality, it's one for this challenge. No fooling yourself ;)

I said city-state, but it is a microstate. Learned something again. Europe has a couple of them and Monaco is almost the smallest of them all. (Andorra being the largest one, followed by Malta, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Monaco and the smallest of the all Vatican City)

I doubted about the division up front, but hoping it would be okay because it was a division already made ánd 'Herbie went to Monte Carlo', not to Monaco. :-p

But maybe Monaco should be sorted out then by a region-manager.

I collect postage stamps & have the same problem
+ Should Jersey & Isle of Man be part of the UK, for sorting purposes.
