We're heading out on holiday, so I made a quick release of the Dark Blue Book. The Hotel Release will be done next week from a wonderful place!

I've got a picture somewhere, but don't know if it will work... sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

ETA: it worked!

Sandcastles made simple: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11336795 ... with a bucket and spade.... on the beach (well, where else)

the 'beach' in question is all rainbow striped sand this year, you can just about make out the whole thing in the second journal entry picture :) as you can see in the first pic, I left the book in the purple bit :)
Profile Image
I bet if anyone tried that here someone would complain about the effect on the environment. :s
Profile Image
It's not a real beach - just a giant sandbox put on the side of the river (they did it with just normal sand last summer too), so I guess it's not an enviro' issue. Hadn't thought about it from that point of view, but, yhea, if you did that to a real beach it'd have quite an impact on any wildlife living there...

Team Scottie Dog released a book on the Glasgow underground for this challenge, releasing a copy of the Wizard of Oz to warn our fellow travellers to beware the wicked witch of WEST ST (one of the Glasgow subway's um, 12 stops...)

For those who have never seen the Glasgow subway I have attached a handy map - phone battery was dead so no pics of the release I'm afraid...

I am in love with your subway map :) it's much more modern minimalist than ours. Do you have to rescue people who've got on in the wrong direction when they could just go a couple of stops the other way? I am constantly amazed on the circle line over how often I have to point out to people that it's 50 mins and 27 stops this way.... or 2 minutes and 1 stop from the opposite platform...

Seconded - that's terrific! :D

it only takes about 45 mins to go round the whole thing, so it's great for visitors - the worst that happens is you birl around for a while. It's a tiny little train (if, like me, you are quite tall, you'll find you can't stand upright next to the doors) and it was designed around Glasgow's population in 1890, at which time most the of the population lived near to the city centre, or near the shipbuilding yards at Govan and Partick, on opposite banks of the Clyde river. Nowadays it means that a lot of the stations (particularly West St) are under-used as urban decay/regeneration has moved people out of these areas. So stations like West St & Shields Rd are now mostly only used by commuters as park & ride (and West St not even for that, as it's not a particularly nice area of town). However the northern half of the circle passes through the West End and the University district and is always busy, and the southern side is well used when Rangers play at Ibrox.

Glasgwegians are very proud (perhaps verging on the ridiculous) of their "subway" even if it doesn't really take people where they wanted to go.

Team Tulip was busy this turn with three releases. We decided to do all three releases on one nature trail, and we tied them all in together.

The first one on the trail is Blue Diary for Collect the light blues. It is accompanied by a hand crafted card reading:
"Out of the blue...there is a book on your path. Don't be alarmed, this book is free, put here especially for you. Take it home, read it and let me know what you thought of it. You can do this - free and anonymously - by going to http://www.bookcrossing.com and entering the BookCrossing ID from inside the book. May your journey today and always be prosperous."
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11300424

The second book is Faceless Killers for in the middle. It is also accompanied by a hand crafted card reading:
"In the middle of nowhere a book is waiting for its next reader. Go ahead, pick it up and bring it with you wherever you are going. I hope you enjoy it. To see where this book has been, and to let me know where you found it, go to http://www.bookcrossing.com and enter the BookCrossing ID from inside this book. It's free and anonymous. Thank you!"
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/8132497

The reason behind this book for in the middle is that the murder that is committed in the book is done in a little village in the middle of nowhere.

The last book on the trail is Such a Long Journey and is for passing go. The card that accompanied this book reads:
"It is not the destination, but the journey that counts. Whether you are at the start or at the end of your journey, a book will be a nice diversion. Why not pick this one up and give it a try? Let me know what you think. You can do that free and anonymously by going to http://www.bookcrossing.com and entering the BookCrossing ID from the inside of this book. Enjoy!"
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7636139

As we did not know what way the people would enter the trail, this book could either be at the beginning or at the end of people's walk on the trail. And such it is with passing go: we get to the end, but at the same time, it is again the beginning of another round on the board.

Here are some more pictures of the books that were released: http://www.flickr.com/---/76685608@N05/

Team Battleship's chance card retro" release for Monopoly turn 11: a new edition of an older story - complete with vintage cover art - left outside a store specializing in antiques and vintage clothing on the off chance that it might find a new reader there. Couldn't find a cabin nearby, but the book was released on an island...

OK - we landed on the square School, and decided to do this the old fashioned way.

The book released:
Jonas by Jens Bjørneboe was written in 1955 and is written as an attack on the state schools in Norway at that time. The book also shows an alternative to the state school, where they use a pedegogy similar to the Waldorf education (Steiner education) although this school is not named in the book. The book Jonas brought on a huge debate when it came out, and has influenced the way the Norwegian schools have changed.

The plot:
Jonas is a small boy, who doesn't read and write and the state school wants to put him in the school for idiots! But somehow he manages to get into an alternative school, where life treats him well.

The release place:
Sør-Fogn Skule from 1876. This tiny school is moved to the Univesity area of Stavanger. A nice release spot!
