Everyone please welcome our new Player Sandra-Sabine!

she will be on Team Iron (as Hayes13 has been playing single handed for a while) - she is a new Bookcrosser, who found out about BC becasue someone posted about our Monopoly game on the toy voyagers website - if whoever that is wants to confess, I think it's worth a new member point for your team :D

Welcome Sandra - I hope you have fun playing along with us

Hi Sandra o/

Welcome to Bookcrossing and to the Monopoly game :) Have fun!
Profile Image
have fun playing, you'll find lots of very nice people here!
Profile Image
Thanks for your warm welcome :-)

I really don't remember the nick of the person. But it was a book set free at a running sushi restaurant, I think in USA. :-D Maybe that helps to find the right person. ;-) The idea was so great that I must come to the BC community and it's really great here!

And now: Let the games begin :-D

Ok, it's not right. We give a bath :-) Our field is named "Water" so we had the idea for this release.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/10404628

The books name is "Badewannenblues". A 'Badewanne' is a bath tube and what do you need to take a bath? - Right: Water :-D And now the book it released at the water tower (I hope this is the right translation in English ^^) in Öhringen.

The book takes a bath, too. How you can see at the pictures. On the shield stands:
Congratulations, you've found an evening full of relax. But what d you need for this evening? Here's a checklist.
a soap [check]
a sponge [check]
a CD with relaxing music [check]
a Badezusatz (what the hell it's the English word for it?! xDSomething you give inside the water. ^^) [check]
a (good) Book [check]
and Water (ok, how you can see it's not easy to get into the water tower, so go home open the water tap at your bath tub, the water will maybe come from this tower. > not checked

It's not word for word, but the sense is the same :-) And how you can see at the pictures we give some nice extras with the book.

http://i13.photobucket.com/---/09-03.jpg (it wasn't easy to take a full size picture, but I think you can see the book and the extras, very small ^^)

Oh wow. complete with Rubber Ducky! Nice one.

WoW! with that as your first release of the game, I think you will do well, that's excellent :D

I think (judging form the picture) that the word in english could be one of two things
- Bath Salts - grains you pour in to fragrance the water (and sometimes make bubbles too)
- Bubble bath - a soapy liquid that you pour in to make bubbles (sometimes fragranced too)
Profile Image
Wow, I think you just blew us out of the water! :p

Excellent job!
Profile Image
Well done, partner. I think you made a real "splash" on your first release. And while Team Iron was all "washed up" for a while, it is making a big come back.

Brava!!
Profile Image
Thank you all :-D

Bath salts ... ok that's easy *lol* I think to complicate :-D
Profile Image
Ok - no team discussion who has to do this release - it's the sports (or better football) fanatic team member - me :D fanatic or crazy enough to go visit a match of the third German football league because the "Bundesliga" hasn't started yet... ;)

here's the link: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/5372770 (my days as leader)

and the translation of the entry:

Challenge of the week - sports ground

First matchday of the new season in the third German football league, VfB Stuttgart II - Saarbrücken, at "Gazi-Stadion", on of the oldest football grounds in Germany (1905), home ground of the "Stuttgarter Kickers", no other German team is playing at the same home ground longer then they do, situated right next to another landmark of Stuttgart - the "Fernsehturm" - the world's oldest television tower built of reinforced concrete.

Certainly the book had a ticket (see picture)

Yay! http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11147758/

The release note says something like this:
I haven't yet read this book but I'm going to take it for summer reading on a sunny day :)

Hello everybody and welcome Sandra.

For this turn, we collect the Light Blues, so we chose a nice blue book, rocking on a blue swing by a wonderful blue sky :-)

Here are some pictures : http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11227824

for a community bookshelf release - I assume I need to have *posted* the book before the deadline on Monday 30th? I'll be posting it overseas so I would need to post it asap for it to arrive by next Monday, and I'd rather like a couple of days to read it myself first?

I will take a photograph of it going off in the post as evidence!!
Profile Image
yup, just needs to be released within the turn - arrival doesn't matter. Don't worry, we'll believe your release notes

So, being a big ol' physics nerd, the rainbow to me is just the visible part of the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation.
When a butterfly looks at a rainbow, it sees a much broader stripe across the sky, with colours visible to it that reach way into the invisable-to-humans-ultraviolet part of the spectrum. When a dog looks at a rainbow, it sees just a couple of separate bands of colour - not a continuous fade from one to the next like us.
And that got me thinking... isn't the end of the rainbow just the beginning of all that other stuff - UV and x-rays and gamma rays? And what about everything before the rainbow - infrared and radiowaves. it's all light, just we can't see it all
So I released 'Light Lifting' inside a mircowave (at a department store) - at the beginning of the rainbow
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11264085/

I friggin love science, i do :D

(just in case I've made no sense at all, here's a lovely diagram - http://upload.wikimedia.org/---/675px-EM_Spectrum_Properties_edit.svg.png
see that little tiny rainbow looking bit in the middle of the coloured band? That's all we get to see....)

Team Racecar is driving around wildly, Lost in the world - which is a direct traslation of the released book. And where do you go when you are lost - naturally to the tourist information center, where the release was done.

Ironically, the first attempt to release the book was a lost cause - I couldn't find the tourist center where it used to be. Had my town lost its tourist center??? I had to go home and google to find out. It wasn't really lost, it had just moved...

What does it mean when the title has "Roman" after it? I've seen that on people's wishlists too..

"Roman" is only the bookgenre. It's a novel (I think this is the right English translation?!), not the Title of a book itself. Sometimes, when we write the ISBN than automatically it's written in this way and when we didn't look at the end it's like this ;-)

Profile Image
that's interesting - i've noticed it being quite trendy for a certain type of book to be called 'such and such title: a novel' I suppose to clarify that it's not non-fiction/ seems a bit redundant to me, but meh. thanks for explaining!

Roman

Yes, thank you for explaining. I've been wondering if it meant it was a special edition of some sort!

If you go to Helsinki in summer, you should visit one of my favourite spots there: The Market Square. And while you watch colourful market stalls full of fruits and vegetables, fish and souvenirs, anything you can imagine, you see people walking around and boats coming and going in harbour and listen to the seagulls and chatter of people in a bright sunshine, please sit down and have one of my favourite treats: coffee and korvapuusti (cinnamon roll) (literally: a slap in the ear). And while you are sitting there, you just might find one of my favourite poetry books released there on a corner of a table in a cozy outdoor cafe.

The books name is "Squirrel's Stairs" in English. These are lovely short poems inspired by nature. You can read them many times and always find something new. Perfect summer reading :)

Because we have the Olympic Games that started in London today, and the stadium of the Olympic Stadion in Helsinki has a tower 72 meter high
http://www.stadion.fi/visit-tower
Team Tulip decided to make the effort and release a book on top of the tower.

As lots of churches in Finland have towers but not necessary bells in them, our bellmaker went looking for a suitable place in Helsinki to put more bells, and what better than a tower you can see from most of the centrum of town, and is visited by lots of tourists every year. So we took him for sightseeing up the tower, and he found the ideal place, just under the platform where you can look out over the town.
So we left the book there, and went for a few minutes to enjoy the view, when we suddenly remembered we had forgotten to take a picture of the release.
Big was our surprise to notice the bellmaker had already left the building!

For turn #9, Team Battleship landed on the square marked "fifth dimension". One of the biggest hits by the American singing group The 5th Dimension was entitled "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All"..so we decided to release a book about a parent who is desparately trying to convince a child to go to sleep!

http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11296937

The release location had to be chosen carefully - someplace where a parent would be likely to pick it up before a child did...a little risky, but we decided to go for it! :p
Profile Image
for the "Lost" Challenge, I released a book on pilgrim way (24 km). When you're lost, you need a direction sign, which you can find on a pilgrim way...

We felt bad for stealing a point from Team Iron in an earlier round, so hopefully this wishlist book for Hayes13 will make up for it! I'll be posting first thing tomorrow, hopefully with a can of Scottish Irn Bru (Iron!!) to see it on its way! (I say hopefully because I'm not sure if you are allowed to put Irn Bru in the post to Italy, but we will soon find out).

We released the book 'How to change the World for ten bucks', because it is about getting square with the universe or karma. We released it in the square lockers at the gym (getting square with yourself). http://s1153.photobucket.com/---/Bookcrossing%20Monopoly%20-%20Round%209/

One would not think Cafes and Resturants was a difficult turn. After all the choices are endless! Did we feel like Thai? Chinese? Ethopian? Mexican? Turns out Comfort food fit best.

We released "Playing for Pizza" by the side of the pride and joy of the Italian Pie Shoppe. The Hammond B-3 organ is carefully covered, and opened up on Saturday Night, when the owner plays for his guests. It's another of those wild and wonderful connections; organ music and pizza, football and pizza, that make life always fresh. Great Pizza, they know my husband by name.
