Can't wait to start playing again.

Yay

I have an idea for this turn already. Although I initially confused myself by looking at my team name from last year...

RE: Yay

Oh good work team mate! ... sending you a message now.

ETA: I love it! GoG has the little markers positioned on the board... well done!

RE: Yay

I know what you mean, Klaradyn; I am scottie dog this year, but I looked right away at team Iron's turn, my team last year!

Lost? Looking forward to playing this challenge.

I've emailed the rest of my team... new frontiers!!!

Awesome!

We're busily making plans, this is going to be fun!

We released it in my school library, as the book is really small & would be lost amongst all the books, like a small child would be lost amongst a large crowd. http://s1153.photobucket.com/---/luckylurker/

The book contains pictures and art historic notes on ceramics/porcelain from the collection in the Swedish National Museum. It was released at Ebbas house, the smallest museum in Malmö (http://www.malmo.se/---/Ebbas-hus.html or for an english text http://www.malmotown.com/---/ebbas-house
). Ebbas house has been preserved as it was when Ebba and her family lived there in 1910 – and surely they would have used some old pottery?!

Some pictures of the museum (taken in three of the houses four rooms) and the relased book:

Our book traveled to the Milestone Museum of Living History today. It is a fun museum for kids, as it is very interactive (my kids were very appreciative of an unexpected outing to the museum). There was also a Lego exhibition, which added to the fun.

Here is the link to the book release.

As an added extra, I went in costume (drawing lots of strange looks - haha). The top button of my shirt was a Ballycumber pin. If anyone would like to see those pictures, they are here:

Great release, you can be proud about your first monopoly-release

New Team...

Our new shiny Team Battleship (consisting of Hyphen8 and Elskaliam) have had the dice rolled for them - threw a 6, landing them on Museums & Galleries

Welcome new players and hope your first turn goes well :)

(I will edit your token onto the gameboard when I get home tonight)

Oh, I like it! Team Battlership! I already have an idea. Now I'm waiting to hear from my teammate to see if she likes it. :-) Fun fun fun!

We had the theme 'New Frontiers' and decided to interpret this as international borders..

Released the book 'God's Own Country' at Prestwick International Airport - once the 'frontier' for all trans-Atlantic travel from Scotland (and famous for Elvis' visit in the 1950s) but now looking rather sorry for itself as a budget airlines' base.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/10368964

and hopefully this should be a picture http://www.flickr.com/---/photostream - the squished piece of tinfoil was supposed to be an aeroplane!
Profile Image
... and left a book there. We set some hints, so it hopefully can be found ;)
Let's see if someone hears "the echo" of the book and takes it home - we chose it by the cover, as you can imagine!

That should score you some bonus points! :-) Really cool idea!

Thanks Thaliomee, for our first release.

We landed on "Museums and Galleries"
I have a museum a few blocks from where I live. The theme for the museum is swedish military. One of the biggest prides of the swedish military industry is the development of the plane called "Draken", which in translation means "the dragon" or "the kite". (I'm guessing they prefer to think of it as a dragon rather than a kite) ;-)
Therefore we chose to release "The kiterunner" by Khaled Hosseini at this museum. The swedish title is "Flyga drake", which translates into "Flying kite".
I hope our dear GoG finds this release very pleasing.

Unfortunatly I don't have the necessary gadget available to upload a releasephoto for this one. My memorycard-reader is busted so I'm gonna need to get a new one. :-(

Great release!

Team Moneybag / In the middle

For this first turn, we had to release a book "in the middle".
We have decided to release it in the middle... of the night.
That's why we released Agatha Christie's "Endless Night" on a poster with a lot of stars, in the "Cité de l'espace" (a theme park about space and space conquest) in Toulouse (France).
You can see some pictures here : http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/10541739

I think we did it !
And thank you to Tobealivre who did the release !

Lovely release, I liked the poster.

So there we are: Team Wolf LOST on the Monopoly-Board 2012 in our first turn. So what do we do to pass the time? Get a Book. A Good Book. And before we knew it we were LOST in a Good Book. By accident. You think... ;)
This is what happened on THURSDAY, March 29th.

While being LOST in a Good Book, we get to know the Adrian Lush Show on Network Toads. Team Wolf was sneaking around being very, very careful not to appear on the pages which were being read right now. And of course, to stay out of vision of THURSDAY NEXT. She wouldn't be amused at all, would she?

And so we discovered a secret - we don't know if SpecOps 27 really know about this, but it seems that Adrian Lush, a fictional character, build an Empire in the real world under the name of "Lush Retail Ltd". As a cover operation to smuggle Welsh Cheese! The reason why all those Lush Shops have a very strong smell of soap and alike is just to cover up the smell of some (well most) of the Welsh cheese.

Of course we can't tell anybody without compromising our status being able to... well to do, what we do. Hence we decided to release (on the next THURSDAY) this book near a Lush Shop in Cologne, with some Cheese so that it must be obvious, what is happening. And hope for the best...

P.S. Sorry about Vikwick, but you know how Dodo's are, they always will be in the focus... (she is an early version 1.2)

None of it will make any sense if you don't read Jasper Fforde books.... but anyone who does is likely incapacitated by laughter at that release and so cannot reach the keyboard just now...

But then again, you have to start with the first one "The Eyre Affair" - otherwise you will get lost in that Lost in a good book...

Jasper Fforde was one of the authors who spoke at the Swindon UnConvention last year. A very entertaining speaker! And he was kind enought to sign books, postcards, and spoons....

there are 8 hours left (well, just over) and so I just wanted to throw out a message to Teams Iron & TopHat, since I haven't heard from them.... if you have PMed me it hasn't gotten through so try again and post here to be sure :)

I am gonna have a hell of a time picking bonus points this turn, some amazing releases :)

Team Iron squeaks in under the wire, just in time!

Our theme was North, so I released a book by a woman who has walked to the North Pole. It was left at platform 11 at the train station, where trains leave on the Northern Line.
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/4604307/

I was aiming for a release near the statue of Cecil John Rhodes pointing North, but was foiled by the bad weather this weekend.

Edited to add: I sent mail to Vekiki and both teammates, and PMed Vekiki as well just to be safe.

Just so that all last years players are clear, I am not using the @mail.com email address for this game (in case you are wondering, they are an awful email server - mail getting lost, or taking days to arrive) - you can PM me your releases, and post here so that everyone can see :)

That's sad, because the Tophats have such a nice theme. I waited curiously what the will do...

Well, now I can keep on waiting what the next dice roll will bring.

A wonderful celebration, with extra point(s)

Wait..

I'm a bit confused now... Did you guys make a new name under team tophat, or did someone find the book and decided to take team-tophat as a username.

I think (Team TopHat, please correct me if I'm wrong) they have made a new usename in order to be able to give themselves a gift....

Now, normally there would be a point for the catch, and another point for the AF sign up - but I'm not sure that that is really applicable in this case since it's a set-up... what does everyone else think?

But it's Tophat's Birthday! As good little bookcrossers, we gave ourselves the perfect present! And then made it even better by following the adage "it's more blessed to give than recieve."

As much as I love their creativity, I don't think you can get a point for catching your own book. If you reward them for that then everyone is gonna start catching their own books.
But I don't mind you giving them a bonus point for being creative. :-)

Further to this - and just to be clear - they will also not get a point for the 'extra' release when it is made by 'team_tophat'. But at that point the book will be once again eligble to be caught by members of the public, or other bookcrossers, and those catches (should they happen) will earn points, as will any further re-releases etc...

Geez. It's starting to sound like you might suspect us of being jail-house lawyers. But we are sitting quite innocently at a Sports arena, not jail.....
Profile Image
Haha, I think we (team top hat) knew that it couldn't count for effictively catching our own book, but it was the only way to actually give ourselves a present (as per the turn). As long as we could get a point once it is out there in the real world all is good :)

No, no! I just wanted to be clear so that everyone knows what is happening... I know from experiance that people (on your team, on other teams...) will make guesses about what is going on, then when something different happens I get all sorts of 'what?' messages... so this was just to prevent confusion
Now, I hope for your sake it's baseball or something you are playing in that arena of yours... not the hunger games!

It's a little early, but since all the releases are in...

all the releases (any eagle-eyes may have noticed this being updated on the blog the last few days anyway):
http://bcmonopoly.blogspot.co.uk/---/turn-one-releases.html

Bonus Points were really hard to pick, all the releases were brilliant this turn - but I have contemplated, asked just about everyone I know for their opinions (the response was mostly ''book-whating monopoly? what the...?') and finally managed to narrow it down.
Points go to:
- Team Wolf for sheer stup-illiness*
- Team Battleship for using dragon breath to send a kite soaring
- Team Tulip for excellent use of a dressing up box
- Team Moneybag for poster-making and clever theme ideas
- Team Top Hat for schizophrenic book-catching....

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
