I know, how am I going to know where to wild release a book now.

Did you know that this game was mentioned in another thread by 6of8 to provide inspiration of where to leave books.

Oh yeah...perhaps we are sort of twins. And one of us is good and the other is evil!

Final Turn!

Is it too soon to ask....are you thinking of running another monopoly challenge in the future.

I personally have had great fun with this, and really enjoyed wild releasing books in various locations. And I've loved the blogs you create after each turn so I can read about all the (much more) creative releases from other teams. So thank you for running this one.

Yes, almost certainly, next year. There are a number of changes to the game i am already thinking about (first time doing this so of course I made mistakes) - for example I will not have the lose a point squares (I'm guessing that you spotted I voided them so no one landed there!), and various changes on the board, including making changes to the 'locations' (If anyone has suggestions, please let me know!).
I don't think i'll be doing a blog write up of each turn if I host again, as that has just been too much work - but i hope that would encourage players to use the forum more to tell each other about their releases.

Anyway, yes, I will be hosting it again, but with differences!

Very well said, KiwiinEngland; I completely agree with everything in this post! And I am thrilled to see you plan on hosting again, Vekiki!

well, really, lots of teams could win - if books from previous turns get caught or re-released... but yes, i am glad that it hasn't become a one horse race :)

Profile Image
but it's TWO??? Holy Sh**!

Thnx! I had not seen that!

If you submit on the Saturday, I will be on a plane preparing to spend two weeks doing this;

by a pool.
Just sayin' :D

Since it came up: I have been thinking a lot about hosting a monopoly game myself since I had soo much fun reading what everyone came up with. Would you mind terribly if I did that and stole some ideas from your board as well?

Still pondering the perfect last release.....

Btw so is the game officially over on Friday or will their be time for books to get journaled afterwards? Don't care either way was just wondering....
Profile Image
No, the game officially finishes on friday - I stop counting points then :)
And feel free to steal the board. If you want me to send you the images (board, counters) then let me know what email address to send them too. ApoloniaX also hosted a german version of the game this year, and iiwi hosted a dutch version a year ago (the whole idea is his, really) so it may be worth stealing iodeas from there too!
Profile Image
Please check that the points listed on your team page are correct. I only know about catches/re-releases if you tell me about them, so make you you are getting credit for them!
Profile Image
You got my Email about the last two catches, right?
Those stickers really do the trick it seems :-)

I don't know, did i? I have the memory of a goldfish. Best go and check that the catches you refer to are on your page!

I thought the game finished Friday 25th.... not this Friday?

Relief!

I thought it was to be another 1 week turn, shortened~

here's a quick round up of my favourite bits from the game (so far, at least), along with info on how many books were relased, caught and all that jazz...

anyone else got this problem? I've checked on two computers (having remembered to sign out) - it should say
comment as; select profile
with 'select profile' being the drop down list

i suck at computers so if anyone knows what's going wrong please yell :)

Thanks, that's one of my favorite releases too!
Actually, when I went to the Erotic museum to do another Monopoly release a few rounds later, I come across a twin of that "tadpole": http://www.weam.com/web/
The guy at the gift shop there agreed that the playground tadpole looks very much like a sperm...
And I quite can't believe no parent has noticed some similarity and complained.
After all, Americans can be rather Puritan when it comes to these things...
Profile Image
O.k. we decided if we can't throw a book at David Cameron in person we will throw it at his picture. Too bad you can't upload a video here :-) Though my video shooting needs improvement, too.
We then released it at a hotel in town.

Hi,
I was wondering how many of you lost a player in your Team during the game. I know that one Team (though I don't remember which one) lost someone and replaced him/her but have others also lost contact or something. I was just wondering because we lost contact with one of our Teammates but by the time I was sure he wouldn't turn up again the game was almost over so we just went on without him (as we practically had from the beginning cause he only released one book). I am not complaining we did fine but since I want to start my own game I wanted to see how often that happens and what you guys think about trading someone in late in the game?
Profile Image
Wow, that's a really far-out journal, man. You're one cool dood!

And it's been found. Not sure what the finder said exactly but I think they like it.

Hmmm...I rely on notifications to track my finds and had not received one. I have checked and sure enough it has been found and a new member too. I know this is too late for the challenge but....WOW like far out man.

wha? the point for the catch is still valid :) i stop counting at the end of this turn, which isn't for 15 minutes (though, actually, I won't be done writing the blog til about midnight as i am at work, so if you all want to check your releases and make sure you've told me about all catches, as long as I hear about them before I post the final score later this evening I'll count them in)

O.k. for our dark blue free release we decided it is time for a tribute to our goddess of game. I think everyone can agree, that she did a wonderful job, right?
I therefor searched for a fitting tribute and finally found this statue of her - complete with books - at the court of justice in Ulm. I left a murder mystery at her feet as a tribute to the goddess.
Btw. there is a bit of park around the building so I thought that was alright for the dark blues.
Thanks again for a wonderful game and all your work.

All has gone quite on the email front for me and as I have experienced technical problems throughout this game thought I had better add my release now for Team Moneybags orange part.

I don't have email access so I hope Vekiki picks this one up ;) and that my team members spot it

Thanks to everyone, it's been fun

OBCZ

Okay I will email in then!

We have an moviethemed OBCZ in a cinema in my hometown, where I left this book about the history of cinemas in my town.

Nope, because Cannon got two releases this week which is an automatic two points.

And maybe lots of catches will come out of the woodwork!

Team wolf got to go around museums, so they headed to Glasgow for a gander.

"Life, The Universe, and Everything" by Douglas Adams was left at the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art. This was a fascinating museum which laid out different belief systems held around the world.

Didn't see a large exhibition merely stating "42" though.

Thimbles (10)
Chance card: Buried treasure challenge - leave a book underground. And celebrate passing Go while you're there

Besides going underground, Thimbles is going underwater too! Here's the release for the GO turn. (Details of the underground release forecoming soon). If the release looks very yellow to you, that's because it was our planned yellow release, which didn't happen, as Marko can well empathize. We are glad that we are able to do it as a GO release, especially as for a while we were doubting whether we can make it pass go at all, at the speed we were crawling.

http://azukibc.wordpress.com/---/a-very-yellow-release/
Profile Image
For the yellow release we did a release dedicated to YellowStar, a Belgian BookCrosser who died of cancer, aged 19, a couple of years ago. I belong to her remembrance group on Facebook, and there have been lots of photos posted of her in the last week or so, so I think she must have died in November. She used to take part in the SSN challenge (I think it was called) on the international forum. Such a lovely girl, a real tragedy. The book we released was ‘Ster in de stad’ (Star in the City), about children living in poverty in Indian cities, which was released on a clear starry night outside the Wereldwinkel (World Shop – the equivalent of Oxfam), whose signature colour is yellow: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7203101/

As for ‘square’, Bally’s too hip to be square! I tried to make an origami box to release with him, “thinking outside the box”, but I didn’t have any instructions available, and the last time I made one was about 30 years ago, so failed at that:-( So I took a rather cool Nintendo storybook with Super Mario on the cover, and left it in the local Market Square, outside the cinema: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/6128765/

By the way, did you see that Flewry’s poetic light blue release from last turn was caught and a very enthusiastic new member joined: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/8620353/

We’ve all enjoyed playing the Monopoly game and are sad it’s over. Who’s going to inspire us to release books in the wild now? Have a great holiday, Vekiki!

Signing off,

Team Iron:
- Flewry in Florida
- Lils74 in Nepal
- Bookguide in the Netherlands

Ta da!

http://bcmonopoly.blogspot.com/---/drumroll-please.html

The winner of our Monopoly game, with 40 points (that's 23 releases, 8 catches, 3 AF sign ups, and 6 bonus points) is Team Cannon! Well done guys!
More accurately, though, well done all of you for making it this far, and a host of awesome releases. Thank you all so much for playing, I hope you had fun! I'll be starting up another game in the first couple of months of next year and it'd be great to have some of you play again if you can face it :)

RE: Ta da!

Well done Team Cannon. And thank you so much Vekiki. You made this challenge really special. I loved all the creativity that went into releases. And I met two BookCrossers that I would probably never have run across since they are on different continents.

RE: Ta da!

Congrats to Team Cannon!
And of course to our GoG, for hosting the game and the brilliant reports of our releases each turn.

Looking forward to the next round :)

Wow

Thank you guys. I have to say until last turn I thought we didn't stand a chance at winning anyway but then catches started coming in so things looked up. As I said before we all did great though. I especially laughed the tadpole release and the train related releases stuck with me as well. Thanks again to GoG! Have a great holiday and read many books :-)
Profile Image
Even though Team Cannon (my team) won, I think everyone did a great job of releasing books. There were so many ideas that I probably would not have thought of, that I now have stashed in the back of my mind! It got down to the wire, and I liked that, instead of having one team so far out. I am looking forward to doing another challenge.
Profile Image
Congratulations to the Cannons!!

I'll just chime in to add my thanks to our Goddess of Game. You did a superb job of hosting, and inspired some really amazing releases. I was constantly in awe at the creativity of so many of you!

And! While my catch rate is still abysmal, it doubled during the course of the game - all the way from two to four! So that's pretty exciting for me.
Profile Image
Our 'square' Nintendo release got caught: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/6128765

Let's keep this thread open and post if any of our releases get journalled.

Congratulations to Team Cannon. I'm going to go back and study everyone's cool releases to inspire me for next time, or just for themed releases.

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
