European Mystery/Crime/Thriller VBB - now "traveling" :)

I somehow found myself virtually submersed in mystery books since the beginning of the year, and the more I read, the more I keep on reading. I'd like to keep the books moving once read. I looked around and it seems the last time we had an European mystery VBB was 5 years ago.. http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/474716

Would anybody like to join me? Please sign up here and let me know your thoughts!

One option is to make this Europe only, as I see there is a very active USA/Canada one going on. Another idea would be that everybody marked their offered books with their own shipping preferences, so that the one choosing can have a selection pool for their location. I also know in some countries Europe only means the European Union when posting .. so please take this into account too when choosing your offers.

I have about 15 books in hands that I'm willing to ship internationally (around here we have the same tariffs for every country outside our own).

I was thinking that every participant provides one or more seeds before the list of books is posted, and then at their turn they can take out up to as many books as they provided, and more if they offer replacements too.

At the end of the round, all unchosen books "return" to their owners and are free to be used for other purposes. So no books get stuck in limbo until the next round 3 years from now :)

Virtual means keeping posting costs as low as possible and only shipping books that somebody is actually interested in reading.

If there is enough interest, I will start this around Feb 5th.

I always envy the U.S.A. VBBs, so it would be perfect to have one for Europe.
I hope this idea becomes a reality soon, you can count me in! :)

I'm in Belarus and can read in English, German and Russian

I'd love to take part in this!
I'm in Germany and international shipping costs are the same no matter where the parcel goes to. So European or International shipping is fine with me.

but would like to take the plunge. I'm in Switzerland and would only want to ship within Europe (or Switzerland?).. I have a few books which should suit. Thanks for organizing this, it's been a while since I've participated in a VBB.

Thanks, we are all in :)

In France, I can mail anywhere but I think that we need an European One.

Home again

and will start PMing after a couple of yawns :)

Entries are open until the end of the week.

And it seems we're European after all :)
Profile Image
so I think I'll take the plunge as mystery/thriller is my favourite book genre.

Plenty of room for new people. The initial list has a very appealing selection of 23 books at the moment :)

I will send a PM later today... :)

Sent. :)

The initial list, with 28 books on board, posted to VintageVanguard.

Brilliant! :)
Are you going to post here the list of participants? It might be useful to see the order... :)

VintageVanguard
penelopewanders (1)
Bookworm-lady (2)
Lamilla (2)
Tanamo (2)
yorkshire-lass (2)
Icila (4)
lamelemon (15)

So that everyone has as many books to choose from as possible when their turn comes, the order is based on the number of provided seeds, and then alphabetical. This assumes that people providing fewer seeds will introduce new books if they request more than their initial allowance, and that the books of people providing more seeds are statistically more likely to be chosen (so the pool of choices grows for the last people instead of narrowing down).

To be honest, I haven't seen this system around, so it might as well fail as it would succeed. But it makes sense on paper, so let's give it a try :)

I think the system is brilliant.
Sorry for not providing any seeds. I'll try and add a few more books than I'm taking.

I received the list and will go through it soon!

Looking forward to my turn!

I had lots of fun to make my picks!

My picks are:
Naked in Death from lamelemon
The Scold's Bridle from lamelemon
Burning Time from yorkshire-lass

And I'll add in:
Darkly Dreaming Dexter ( Dexter #1) by Jeff Lindsay http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14390276/
Dearly Devoted Dexter ( Dexter #2) by Jeff Lindsay http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14183238/
Dexter in the Dark (Dexter #3) by Jeff Lindsay http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14187360/
And to top off the list to make it a nice round 30 books I'll add two more:
The Trophy Child by Paula Daly http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14914134/
Velocity by Dean Koontz http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14379497/

Sending out my PM's now ^^ Thanks for letting me take part in this. If there will be a second round count me in again!

List is off to penelopewanders

- although it's not so easy to narrow down the choices with such an interesting selection.
Now I need to sort out what I'll put in. I hope to find time to do that on the weekend...
Profile Image
My picks:
I Let You Go, Clare Mackintosh (Icila)
One for the Money (Stephanie Plum #1), Janet Evanovich (lamelemon)
The Paying Guests, Sarah Waters, (Bookworm-Lady)

and I will put in

Scream for Me, Karen Rose http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7562439
Dead Cert, Dick Francis, http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/4417610
Straight into Darkness, Faye Kellerman http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/4349449/

For now I'll leave my seed in. So now I'll PM the people whose books I've chosen... so hard to decide though!
Keep me in for round two as well, thanks for organizing this!

Thanks, my book is ready to travel, I will post it some time next week.
And the list is off to Bookworm-lady, enjoy :)

Thank you, I have just gone through the impressive list of books... and I definitely must take a closer look in order to choose!
