[INTL] Bookray: first 2 Fools Guild books, historical mysteries with pratfalls and zippy dialogue:

I've thoroughly enjoyed Alan Gordon's "Fools Guild" series, and thought I'd offer the first two books for a bookray. Mailing preferences will affect the mailing order, but I hope to be able to include all interested parties!

The series is a very well-researched one, with the historical characters and events rendered quite well, even allowing for author-created conversations and motivations that history doesn't record. And the whole concept of the Fool's Guild as a kind of secret agency for spies, diplomats and assassins all operating under the cover of fools in whiteface and motley is great fun. The plots are (appropriately) Byzantine, and the dialogue is snappy and often hilarious - and the characters are magnificent. Very enjoyable reads, so I wanted to share them!

My comments, bookray instructions, and the participant list, are in the books' JEs:

Thirteenth Night ( https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14386033 )

Jester Leaps In ( https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14386022 ) - note that the JE on this one includes mild spoilers re the events of the previous book, as does the global-overview summary.

I admit that I find the second book more enjoyable than the first, but that's mainly due to the addition of a major character who's only introduced well into that first book. And Thirteenth Night has pleasures of its own, especially for fans of Shakespeare's work - they'll recognize the references right away, though that's not essential for enjoying the series.

The books are paperbacks that, together, weigh under 11 ounces, something to keep in mind when estimating postage costs. [US participants can get postage estimates at the USPS site here ( http://www.usps.com/ ).]

Post here if interested, including any mailing restrictions and/or preferences.

If the books make it out the US I would love to read them, I'm in the U.K. And would post them internationally if necessary (my preference would be within Europe however)

I'd be interested if it comes over to Europe. I'm in Switzerland,, and would prefer to post within Europe, but at a pinch... no rush whatsoever.

As per the parent message, the ray will be international, but if you can't mail internationally you can still ask to participate - though you may wind up at the end of the list!

See parent message for details. I'll get the books moving soon, and may still be able to add participants depending on location and mail preference, but if you're interested, it'd help if you chimed in now.
