Manga and Graphic Novel book box USA only

I am currently reading down a stack of manga and graphic novels that are on my TBR pile from winning the manga sweeps and the last manga book box.

I would like to send another bookbox out into the world, and wanted to see who would be interested in participating. I'm thinking of trying to get this on the mail by the end of June to give myself time to finish reading and to get past the end of the school year.

Unfortunately this will have to be a USA only box.

I'm in

but can I be towards the middle, if possible? (If I can't no worries!)

This bookbox will be a mix of manga and graphic novels. They can be Japanese, American, or other origin. However as it is a US Book Box please include English translations as people playing may not read another language. Please do not include single issues of comics unless they are extra goodies for someone else to share.

I will need at least five participants to join the box in order to run it. It will probably be a large box, around 25 - 30 books. I will hope to start it traveling at the beginning of July, so people at the beginning of the list will have about a month to collect books.

To join, just post with any shipping preferences (end of list, etc.) and I'll add your name to the list. This box is US only.

Bookbox rules:
*When you get the box please post here so we can track its progress.
*Journal all books you take out of the box and make sure you put at least the number back in.
*Make sure the books you add have the BCID in them. It seems obvious, but I have had times when folks forgot and I had to try and track them down.
*Books do not have to be the first in a series, but before adding take into consideration how they will read as a stand-alone. If the future reader is going to be completely lost, particularly if the series isn't easily found, please consider finding it a home another way.
*Please pass the box on within 2 weeks. If something comes up and you are going to have to hold onto the box a little longer, let me know so we don't have to worry.
*Feel free to ship the box by the cheapest, slowest postage option.

Participant list:

GoryDetails
AlterEgoZoe
emmejo
spacedog
(Asked to be skipped) Saint13
Azuki

I'll join.

Ideally I'd like to be towards the middle or end, as I am expecting a couple boxes in the next month and don't want to end up holding any of them up. Thanks!

Welcome! Bookbox is fun! It's like getting a Christmas gift. You open the box and there are so many books, it's a lot of fun and excitement to go through them and decide which ones you want to keep.

From the box, you can take out as many books as you put in. As this is a themed bookbox, the books you put in should fit in the theme (in this case, manga or graphic novels.) As a courtesy to others, the books should also be in good condition and something that you yourself think is good enough to share with friends.

Usually there is an accompanying book for journal, or you can post here, what you take out and put in.

A participant is expected to complete the exchange of books and mail the box to the next participant within a month. However, should you become too busy, something happens, and you need a little longer to mail it out, don't worry, just let us know.

For now, read some graphic novels/manga, so that when your turn comes, you have books ready for the exchange.

Welcome saint13! I have added you to the participants list towards the end to give you some time to read and register some graphic novels or manga on your shelf to use in the box.

The person on the list in front of you will send you a pm through the bookcrossing site for your mailing info.

They will send the box to you and you get to go through and exchange books. As Azuki said you replace what you take out with the same number of books. So if you choose 10 titles to take out you need to put 10 different titles back into the box before mailing.

Then you pm the next person in the list and mail the box to them. Media mail is fine to mail as a heavy box can get expensive to mail otherwise.

I'm hoping to have about 25 - 30 titles in the box depending on how fast I can read in the next few weeks. Feel free to take as many or few as you like. Don't feel like you need to take and replace the whole box.

14 of the books I include will be a whole series I would love to pass along together. However you don't need to feel constrained by volume number if your book is part of a series. While it's nice to have earlier books in a multi volume series later ones can work as well. I have picked up later volumes I was in need of from boxes before as well as read a later book and picked up the earlier books because of it. Use your best judgement on what to include.

If you have any questions about the process please feel free to ask questions here or pm me with them.

What is media mail? Thank you!
Profile Image
Media mail is a is postage rate for books, CDs, and other printed materials. It is weight based like the first class and priority postage. But it is a much cheaper per pound rate. The downside is it can be a bit slower depending on where you are sending to and is subject to being checked as people abuse it by sending non media items.

I have included a link to the usps page on media mail.

How heavy will it be?

I'm not sure yet.

How heavy will it be?

Each box varies and it will gain and lose weight along the way, as you may replace a heavy hardcover with a thin paperback or vice versa. But I'd say about 8-12 lbs? Usually I pay about $10-12 for shipping. Manga box tends to be lighter as the volumes are usually thinner and make of lighter paper.
Profile Image
There is a mix of thin volumes and omnibus volumes right now. I'll post a list of volumes I am including in a week or two as next week is the last week of school and then I have a few days of classroom packing to get through.
Profile Image
i'm in. can you put me near the end? thanks, and thanks for organizing.

I couldn't fit my last TBR graphic novels in the box so I started it on it's travels today. The box is headed towards GoryDetails right now. Estimated delivery is Monday July 3.

There ended up being 43 books in the box!

Hi looks like it's bookbox season for me! I just mailed out one last week, has two with me. I am next in line for this one but don't think I am ready for it yet. Can I be moved down a bit please? not sure how they are all arriving within a month's span and I am not reading fast enough.

Thanks!!
Profile Image
Heh! Yeah, this is the second box I've received within a couple of weeks, and there's another one on its way to me, so I know what you mean. I've contacted AlterEgoZoe for an address, and am in the process of posting my choices in the Manga Coloring Book bookbox-journal ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14452373/ ).

Mailing-info update: the box came to me at nearly 30 pounds, with a media-mail postage cost of $16.61; I expect it'll remain roughly the same after my choices. That works out to about 40 cents a book, not bad for current postage rates {wry grin}.
Profile Image
no problem, I moved you closer to the end :)
Profile Image
The box is on its way to AlterEgoZoe; enjoy! My choices, and the tracking info, are in the bookbox-journal entries ( https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14452373 ). Thanks!

Will move along to the next person asap
Profile Image
emmejo has asked if I could delay a bit in mailing to her, so I'll mail it to her sometime near the end of my second week. :)
Profile Image
Sorry it took a bit longer than expected to mail. It should arrive on Wednesday. It is a bit heavy, and mailed at $15.17.
