WILD THING ~~Animal Bookbox~~US

WILD THING slightly shrinking bookbox
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12388514

Though strictly speaking, the animals need't be wild :p

The box will be a mixture of both fiction and non-fiction, and for the fiction, the animals must be integral to the story, if not it's focus. So “Cat Who” books would not qualify, but Midnight Louie mysteries would.

Books I have set aside include:

non-fiction
Mark of the Grizzly http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12139425
The Lost History of the Canine Race http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/3604390
Sight Hound http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/2962945
We Bought A Zoo http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11756612
Enslaved by Ducks http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12245036
White Horses Over France http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/3700229

fiction
To Dance with the White Dog http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/8600654
The Wolfling http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/a8600654
East of the Mountains http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/8160657 (oops, as I looked it up, I realized I didn't journal after reading :( so this stays on the table to remind me)
Riding Lessons http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/9797866
Catfantastic IV http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12115056
Cat in an Indigo Mood http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/8140075

This is not all, but it gives you the idea ( and besides, my others aren't registered yet :-D)
I think as it leaves here, it will probably be a little heavier on the NF side, and I'd like it to stay at least half and half.

Now for the slightly shrinking part~~ that translates to “I do want books to return, just not as many.” So the total number of books in the box will depend on how many sign up, and each person will take one or two more books than they put in the box, again depending on how many participants. I want there to still be a good selection for the last person to choose from, then it will come home . To wherever my new home will be. Still in Salt Lake for now, but I have to move~~and downsize dramatically~ in January.

Please be respectful and considerate of your fellow bookcrossers. Send on books in good shape, that you have read and think others will enjoy. No garbage, no Saddle Club type/quality, no Romances (not that I think they'd qualify anyway, but just to be sure :p)

no Romances (not that I think they'd qualify anyway, but just to be sure :p)

Oh you mean those long hair flying, chest baring men on romance covers aren't wide enough for you? ; D

It's funny I just picked up a copy of We Bought a Zoo last week and was thinking that it will fit in this box as I clicked to read it.

Well, I do have books that qualify, but they are all on my TBR. If you plan to start the box in Jan I can join but sooner than that I may not be ready.

LOL! assuming that was 'wild' :) Naw, if they really were wild it could be fun <grrin>, but I think they tend to tame the wildness and insert sappy insipid romantic fantasy instead.

It's funny I just picked up a copy of We Bought a Zoo last week and was thinking that it will fit in this box as I clicked to read it.

It could still work for the box~~If you're farther down the list, it could have already been chosen, or for that matter I have more than enough to choose from when it starts.
Profile Image
They can be really wild, you know. ; D
JK... I won't have anything of that kind to put it even should you nod your approval...
Sounds like a great bookbox idea. Hopefully someone else are as interested as I am!
Profile Image
now that sounds hot, azuki! :D

But probably more suited to emmejo's Otherworldly bookbox ~~lol

Though come to think of it. why not. If anthropomorphic cats are ok, why not wild werewolf romance?? I'm all for wild sex :D
Profile Image
particuliarly if it stays about 50/50 NF-FIC.

GROAN....hehehe, bad pun ideed :).

Welcome qo~
Profile Image

Add me!

I'm sure there's something running around on my shelfs that will fit.
Profile Image
I found two on the bookshelves that fit. Pulling them onto the TBR sooner pile & noting what they're for :-)
Profile Image
I thought this would be an easy go for a box. LOL, maybe that's what I get for thinking :)

Thanks for joining azuki, quietorchid, heartthumper, and NancyNova. I 'll bump this a time or towo in hopes we get some more to join us.
Profile Image
My sister was here for two weeks as we worked on our Mom's estate :D for time with sis, :( for reason.

Anywho, now I shall get started on gathering and registering additional books :)
Profile Image
I am happy to ship back to the US. Sounds like a fun book box, but no worries if it can't head north :)
Profile Image
Minerva, it's unlikely, as a full box is in the $50+ range to send, and there's no group in one city to share the cost, as with the SF box. And no international book rate :(

However, I would be happy to send you the list of books going in the box, from which you could choose 1 or 2 (depending on size/weight) and I would send that/those to you. If it's one, well this is a shrinking box, if it's two, you would add one book by sending to the first person the box is heading to. Wish we could send boxes everywhere the way we used to!
Profile Image
This is a genius idea! If I stay in the middle of the pack (which works for me) I will also try to let you know what is in the box when it gets to me and maybe we could do another swap out that way.

I may also suggest something similar in other bookboxes in the future. Hate to leave out the Canucks (being half-Canadian myself), but also looking to cut back on the costs from my enthusiastic volunteering to send big international packages and being stunned again at the price the post office charges.
Profile Image
That sounds wonderful! Thank you for the idea, Erishkigal, and 6of8 for the offer to do a "mid way" swap! As you may know - I am an animal person and have a few that would fit this box well and I am happy to share across the border :)
Profile Image
Oh, all right, count me in! I'd released most of my animal-related books in the Such an Animal challenge, but I may have a few more lying around somewhere {wry grin}.
Profile Image

Maybe

I keep trying to resist bookboxes, but I am low on willpower. At the moment, though, I am also low on books that would work for this book box -- especially since I don't know if the Rita Mae/Sneaky Pie Brown books would count (the animals do more detective work than the Cat Who, but less than Midnight Louie).

So, I am a firm Maybe on this one.
Profile Image
I do have Three Bags Full somewhere, which is s a mystery where the sheep do the sleuthing... Would be great for this box if I can find it and read it in time. Not a mystery fan myself but the sheep did me in...
Profile Image
azuki, 3 bags full would be perfect :) It's one I actually bought new, as I couldn't resist the idea of sheep detectives. I think that copy is now grazing in Hawaii somewhere....

And 6, Yes, I'd go for including Rita Mae's 'Sneaky Pie Brown' books as told by mrs murphy, but not her Hunt Club series (as much as I like them).
Profile Image
3 Bags Full is on my wishlist -- that alone is enough to move me from the Maybe to the Yes column. (As an attorney, I know that I must accept the risk that someone else may end up stea -- er, choosing -- this book from the box. I will chance it.) Especially seeing as Mrs. Murphy is acceptable -- that gives me 3 books on my shelf to play with. All TBR, so if you could leave me at the bottom of the rotation it would be helpful.

Will this work for everyone? It's close to the sign up order. azuki, is that far enough down the list for reading? Anyone else need rearrangement?
Profile Image
This looks good to me - I hope this works out well and I am looking forward to seeing the list.
Thank you again, Erishkigal!
Profile Image
Just finished a lion book and will be on the sheep one soon! (after knocking out a ring first)
Profile Image
I've got a pile read.
Profile Image
so the box is officially on it's way. As soon as I have her picks, the rest will be on their way to quietorchid, as will be her replacement (unless she chooses a heavy hb and I can only send the one). Now I just must decide whether to make a journal the journal, or make 'bad cat' the journal.....
Profile Image
Can I join? I have a few to share.
Profile Image
added you BnB~ :)

Profile Image
Couldn't find a journal number. It's my first day off in 6 days so I'm a little slap happy. The box is here, sat in my living room until last night. I'll make my choices and send it on. Thanks!
Profile Image
I chose:

The Cat Who Covered The World
Sight Hound
The Cat and the Curmudgeon
Cat In An Indigo Mood

I added:

Sleight of Paw
Cat In A Kiwi Con
Cat On a Hyacinth Hunt

It's in the mail to NancyNova.

Profile Image
A little worse for the wear, so I'll replace it before moving it along. I'm in the middle of reading one of the books that goes into the box (it's one of the books that heartthumper picked - I also had a copy).

Pm'g the next person in line & will get this back out shortly.
Profile Image
Replaced the box and played Tetris with the books!

And then I had to decide which ones stayed in Pa (Tough decision)
I took out:
The Cat Who Loved Christmas http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12346121/
Enslaved by Ducks by Bob Tarte http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12245036/ (check out the cover with the duck eating the title)
Rats by Robert Sullivan http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11972478/ (another cover to check out - the shape of the rat is over Manhattan - cool)
Dogged Pursuit by Robert Rodi http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12409978/
Sleight of Paw by Sofie Kelly http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11511956/
The Children of Lir http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12407385 (taken out, read and put back in)

And took another out, so box would close: White Horses over France by Robin Hanbury-Tenison http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/3700229

Putting in:
The Hidden Life of Dogs by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7978119/
No Dogs in Heaven? Scenes from the Life of a Country Veterinarian by Robert T. Sharpe DVM http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/6305044/
Sight Hound going back in with my copy! This is by Pam Houston http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7762894/
Dog Tags by David Rosenfelt http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12463984
The Children of Lir http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12407385 (taken out, read and put back in)

The box will likely move along next Saturday, after I finish reading Sight Hound and have the address from the next in line. I'll post the tracking when I ship off the box.
Profile Image
looks like heartthumper's was a cat stop and Nancy's is for dogs. My titles here are somewhat dog heavy too... I guess we need them to safeguard the herd of sheep heading to 6of8.
I'm reading one called Pecked to Death by Duck, which does sound like a sequel to yours (Enslaved is a fun book, I remember enjoying it).

Box update

According to the tracking, the box arrived in Miami on 2/12. I was a little concerned because of the weather, that it got stuck trying to get out of the snowy northeast.
Profile Image
The box arrived in Maryland today. I will make a list of the contents and send it up to Minerva101 so she can have her pick and then work on moving it down the line to the next zookeeper.
Profile Image
I managed to get the box into the mail yesterday, so the books are en route to GoryDetails. Tracking #9114901230803179144551. Expected arrival date is listed as Saturday 3/29.
Profile Image
That was quick - the box reached me today! I'll try to make my choices and get it moving again soon. [And thanks for the bonus book, which is indeed a perfect choice for Geocaching!]
Profile Image
I've posted my choices and the USPS tracking number in the bookbox journal ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12388514 ). Hope the box travels safely!
Profile Image
made my selections and mailed it on either Thursday or Friday. It is on its way to bibliotreker.
Profile Image
Thanks BookandMusic it arrived today and to Erishkigal for starting this one. So many books to choose from. I'll and make my selections quickly and send it on it's way.
Profile Image
Just mailed the box to BooksnBeer today, USPS Tracking#9114901159818675551389

Out on a Limb

Put in:
Marley and Me
Timbuctu

Whales, dolphins and Porposes

Evened the collection with more dog books, a horse, and whales and porposes since the cats seemed to be taking over. Took out some of the cat books that I'll share with some of my cat friends. And took a book on bears and the two dog books.

Profile Image
I have the box and I'm still milling over what to take out. I'm also going to transfer it into another box. I'll post my choices and adds, shortly.
Profile Image
A very interesting collection of books.

A Primate’s Memoir: A Neuroscientist’s Unconventional Life Among the Baboons
Animals Make Us Human: Creating the best life for Animals

Adding to the box
A Spell for Chameleon
Gipsy Moth Circles the World

I hope to get this out this weekend.
Profile Image
Uh-oh! According to the bookbox-journal JE ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12388514/ ) it seems this box may have been lost in the mail; and after it had almost completed its journey, too! Darn...

Erishkigal, if you need any help in listing the contents of the box, let us know!
Profile Image
looks like some beast managed to claw its way out and send all animals into the wild!! (maybe we should give the box a tamer name...)

Anyway, if the box is lost indeed, please let us know. I'd try to send a few books to Erishkigal so she won't be without books.

Also, I don't know if the post office has been more careless with handling packages, or we can use some refresher on proper packing, but recently several of the bookboxes I received came in very bad condition. The seams were bursting and the books almost "leaking" out.
Profile Image
Same here Erishkigal. If the books from the box are indeed missing, I'd be happy to send you some books. It's just is so ironic that just as the box is going home that this happeneds, especially with all the work you put into it.
Profile Image
The box when it came my way was in pretty bad shape. I re-packed them all into a very secure box and sent it on it's way. I'm going to look for the tracking number to see if Erishkigal can ask at the Post Office. I covered all the logos on all sides but, I did pack them in a beer box??
Profile Image
I hope they find remnants of it...
Just want to say, I store my books in beer boxes too. I love how they have handles at the side and are a bit shorter than your standard storage boxes so the books line up nicely w spine up.
Also, it helps me categorize the books: non fiction in 60 min IPA, romances in Two Hearted Ale, Asian fictions in Kirin, Travelogs in Key West Ale...
Profile Image
When I sent the box to BooksandBeer. I put a lot of packing material inside to prevent shifting and taped the outside seams with heavy duty packing tape. I even took a larger book to prevent the box from bulging when packed. Makes you wonder what happens after the boxes leave our hands.
Profile Image
You have some horses, dogs, kittens, fishes, a gecko and a wolf heading your way!!
Thanks again for arranging the box, it was fun.
Profile Image
azuki, you are a sweetheart!! and what a diverse group of 'wild things' :) a gecko? that's intriguing....I became enchanted by the little guys decades ago, when I lived on Guam. And they were a different sort than one sees in pet shops, so I wonder what
this one is?

btw,

"Also, it helps me categorize the books: non fiction in 60 min IPA, romances in Two Hearted Ale, Asian fictions in Kirin, Travelogs in Key West Ale..."

LOVE your system:D
hmmm. Westerns in Rodeo, winter or sports in Bobsled, Native American in Mystic White (it has a White Buffalo on the label), banned books in Omission, political books in Arrogant Bastard..... hey, this is fun ; D

I guess horror can be in Laughing Skull.

LOLOL! Love it!

Azuki, the box arrived yesterday, and is fabulous! I read White Fang 50 years ago (omg!), so it will be fun to read again as an adult. The others are all new to me and look wonderful. Have glanced through the Kittens in Boxes (didn't read, just looked at pics) and they're as cute as can be :) Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!! It's a crazy weekend, so I may not get to the journals for a few days, but I wanted you to know they arrived safe and sound, and I'm thrilled!
Profile Image
: )
Again, thanks for organizing the box (and the many other ones you've organized in the past.)

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
