Bookiversary Moomin RABCK! *WINNERS*

It's been so long since my last rabck, that I thought I might have a proper themed one to celebrate my March bookiversary!

There will be FOUR winners, for there are FOUR different things to win:
1) Metallic Moomin family bookmark
2) Moomin treats (yes, there'll be sugar)
3) Finn Family Moomintroll novel by Tove Jansson
4) Wings for a month

All you need to do to join is to tell me which Moominvalley character you resemble the most and why?
If you have never heard of the Moomins and don't know the characters, here's a test for you:
https://www.moomin.com/---/the-coolest-personality-test-which-moomin-character-are-you 😊 (Snufkin here, hi!)

You have until the end of February to join! Naturally this is open for every bookcrosser around the world :)

I think it’s because I’m a bit of a tree-hugger and nature lover.

I’d like to enter for some sweet treats to share with my niece who loves the Moomins too, she’s most like Little My (and has a sweet tooth). I already have the bookmark which is beautiful!

Congratulations on 11 years as a Bookcrosser. When are you visiting London again? Maybe I could arrange another Underground visit.

ETA Please put me down for the book too!

What might Haisuli be in English? Stinky? I, too, need a haircut.

My wings have expired and I have easier access to all things Moomin than some of our foreign friends, so I'd like to participate to category 4, please.
Profile Image
How can I resist this?
I think I have a split personality... somewhere between Snufkin and Little My. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.
(No need of wings these days, thanks. And the book should better go to a Moomin newbie.)

Great idea ! Incredible as it is, the Moomins never made they way to Greece !! They are totally unknown here. Maybe they don't like the sun ?

Same in France!
I only "know" a bit about them because I have a friend from Finland who sent me a Moomin mug.
But I have never seen anything about them here.
Happy bookiversary anyway! :)

OMBG (oh my book gods), I'm so adding one more prize to the list! This situation desperately calls for action!

Oh, this RABCK is wonderful! Thank you so much for the opportunity. I'm in love with all things Moomin (and I remember the lovely little Moomin chocolates and teas with much joy). Whenever I come across somebody who has never heard of the Moomins (like the person who looked at my big cake plate and exclaimed, "There's a hippo on your plate!") I'm very astonished. On the other hand, I'm jealous of people who get to discover the Moomin books for the first time.

I think that while in general some might say I'm quite a bit like Little My, right now during a more quiet phase of healing and reorientation, I identify more with Moomintroll. I like being out on an adventure, but I also like returning home and feeling warm and safe. :)
Profile Image
I would say that I'm more like Snufkin. I like the nomadic lifestyle and I don't like authority that much. I also don't like to keep too much stuff (except for some books, but I'm learning). Like Snufkin, I am a kind of solitary wanderer (wouldn't it be perfect to live in Finland during Spring and Summer, and in Portugal during Autumn and Winter?) :-)

Thanks for this wonderful opportunity. But most of all, thanks for staying around.
Kippis! :-)

Congratulations on 11 years of Bookcrossing. Wishing you many more.

I have no idea what a Moomin is. Enjoy your celebration.
Profile Image
There are now two options with number 3...
Profile Image
Try editing stuff with a mobile...

But yay, there's now a Moomin character test linked as well for all of you who are unfamiliar with the Moomin family! If you've got a cuppa and a blanket, you might want to watch an episode of 90s Moomin animation as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

I think I'm most like Snufkin, too - I like my space.
Profile Image
I hope he is cool, because looking at the pictures, there are some others that I would like to be. I have heard of the books, but never seen them anywhere. Happy anniversary!

Cool test!

And I found out I'm really Snufkin :-)
(No entry for the book, I read it.)
Profile Image
according to the test. I only found out about the Moomins when I saw them mentioned by fellow bookcrossers. Love to learn more and want to enter for wings or the book.

Happy Bookiversary!
Profile Image
I did the test and I am Moominpappa too :)
I know the Moomins thanks to my brother who had a Finnish girlfriend many years ago. I remember he came back from his first trip to Finland with funny Moomin souvenirs explaining that they were very popular. After he broke up, I never heard of Moomins again until some nice Finnish bookcrossers sent me delicious Moomin tea bags :)
Profile Image
And many more to come ! Unfortunately, the Moomins are unknown in France.

No, but you have in France les Barbapapa which must be some kind of remote cousins :)

Yes, it's right Lubiette ! All my young years les Barbapapa, with the cartoons.

According to the test I'm Snufkin.

If I do the test again I might end up with another character? Well the most important is to celebrate with you:

Congratulations on your bookiversary, pippis!
(
Can I just enter the draw for number 3 and 4?)

Yes, the test will give you another character with surprisingly little changes!
It's absolutely fine to enter for only some of the prizes, so you're in for 3&4!

Look what I spotted:
https://www.flickr.com/---/26582990258
Little My, just a few minutes walk from my place in Patan, near Kathmandu.
And check the other two pictures next to it, inside the shop, more Moomin cushion covers and a T-shirt. I asked the owner about it, and he reacted like "yes, sure, of course, they were so popular in the 90s!" They were translated into Nepali then, and Little My got a Nepali name: Sano Maya. Snufkin and the others kept their names. (I don't know if he only meant the cartoon films or the books too, need to check a bookshop.)
ETA: I found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
ETA: There's a reason for this: In 1985 a Finnish couple came to Nepal to help improve TV broadcasting, and they convinced Nepal Television to dub and run Moomin cartoons :-) http://nepalitimes.com/news.php?...

How amazing! But hey, girls need feisty role models who speak their minds all around the world, and who'd be better for the job than Little My!

So basically Finns brought commercialism and consumerism to Nepal 😳 Oh.
The things you learn through BookCrossing, though...

Go on everyone, do the little character test and tell us who you'd be in Moominvalley!
Profile Image
I have read all the books so if I win I would prefer one of the other prizes :-)
Profile Image
I have to say that I do trust this test ! I have always lives the Moomins, and still get nightmares about Hufsa!
Happy anniversary :-)
Profile Image
I discovered the moomins via bookrings when I lived in the UK. What a great rabck.
Profile Image
Yesterday I bought a collection of short stories by Tove Jansson "Resa med lätt bagage" - such a fantastic writer she was!

I want to be Lilla My, but apparently I am Snusmumriken.

If I'm lucky enough to win, I'd love the bookmark.
Profile Image

It gave me

Snufkin, too... As good as any other result, I'm sure ;) Since I don't care much about the Moomin characters (with the exception of Hattiwatti) I'd only like to enter for wings, thanks. And happy bookiversary!!
Profile Image
I would like to be Lilla My but the test shows that I am Muminmamman!
Lilla My because I'd like to be free and daring and outspoken! Muminmamman because I'm always giving (good?) advices or plasters, collecting shells and knitting.

If I should win I'd like Moomin treats.
Profile Image
I have always been the moomin father but now it gave me Too-Ticki when i did it in Swedish and Hattifatteners when I did it in English.

Too-Ticki suits me since he always try to find a solution to problems.
I'm not sure how the hattifatteners resemble me actually.
The moomin father suits me in many ways. "He enjoys philosophical thinking and always wants to be on the scene whenever something surprising happens inMoominvalley."

One day left!

All things Moomin and a pair of wings looking for new home! Come join the bookiversary rabck!
Profile Image
... I'm Snufkin! :)
Profile Image
what a fun RABCK!

I'm Sniff!
Profile Image
You're one year ahead of me ;-)
I've been trying to do the test for some time, but I never get past "Let's begin" - so I think I would be Stinky - that is indeed the name here in Germany, as far as I remember. I used to watch the Moomins on TV, but unfortunately have lost touch lately.
(No entry, as the goodies should go to ardent Moominfans)
Profile Image
Thank you everyone for participating! We surely have a Moominvalley of our own here, with all the great personalities making this one amazing place 😊
Good old raffle tickets were drawn from a top hat (Halloween props still lying around..) and the little prizes are going to:
Bookmark to kiwiinengland
Treats to Haugtussa
Book to TO2SO3B11D2O
Wings to mcsar
Congratulations everyone! I'll contact you for addresses shortly!

Did you know you could have a Moomin soda (besides the Moomin tea us Finns are keen on sending to BCs) to cheer our winners? ☺ You name a product, there probably is one Moomin themed available 😅

Like Moomin coffee, Moomin diapers, Moomin band-aids and Moomin underwear in adult sizes? 😅
Profile Image
Really?
Well, I've seen Moomin coffee, but not soda (let alone Moomin underwear). But I would like to wear it, Moomin underwear I mean. I'm weird, I know :-)

Here you go: Stinky boxers! https://shop.moomin.com/---/boxers?... :-)

Haha! Really cool :-) Love it!
Thanks for the link

*ahem* Talking bout Moomin products, they've just launched a range of ready meals for children: https://www.moomin.com/---/jalostajan-uudet-muumi-ateriat-valmistuvat-hannan-heilautuksessa/ Unfortunately it's only available in Finnish, but at least you can see what they look like. There's salmon soup, mince soup, pasta carbonara and pasta bolognese. Perhaps I should have just sent everyone a nice warming salmon soup instead of treats and books...

I'd rather wear the Stinky Boxers :-)

Yes, one is actually called "Moomin Minced Meat Soup", which makes me a bit worried.... ;D

Thank you. I am already enjoying my gift. It is good to be flying again. 8)

Congratulations to pippis again on your Bookiversary and congratulations to the other winners.

Lucky me! Thank you very much 😊

And thank you, pippis. This was a really enjoyable thread. :)

for the book which came yesterday. Looks like a fun read for me and my granddaughter. Love the picture of the character you sent along!
Profile Image
For the amazingly detailed bookmark, featuring a number of the characters depicted in great detail on metal. It is a lovely.

Yay!

Glad to hear the Moomin family world domination is slowly happening 😊 Hope they make great new friends in all of you!
