2017 Holiday Gift Giving -- 13th Annual!

It's here! Yippee!!!

***Please read this post very carefully and if you still have questions then PM me for clarification.***

It's time for our annual Holiday Gift Giving Thread! We are in our 13th year and I think I'm more excited than ever about this year's gift giving opportunity! I love being the middle-girl between those who want to surprise another BCer with a gift and the lucky receiver of that gift!

Everyone may post his or her personal wish list, not just books, but anything--- big or small. Others may try to fulfill the wishes as they can. USED items that fulfill a specific wish are just as wonderful as new, and there are NO OBLIGATIONS.

***Please post your country in the subject line to make it easier for the 'givers'.

I WILL NOT BE ASSIGNING YOU A PARTNER as in some of the other giving threads. On this thread, you read through the wishes and find the ones you would like to grant. Then you PM me to get the address for you. You then send the surprises out at any time between now and...whenever!

***Address Info***
Something new: Please make sure to PM for updated addresses. I have had sweet BXing friends send me several things to old addresses this year and have sometimes had to go and retrieve them...and have always had to pay the entire cost of shipping again. (Which is fine...I'm just thankful they weren't sent back!) If you're keeping a BC address book, take the opportunity this year to update it by checking with me for addresses. I will be collecting addresses again as usual, so please send your address to me and I'll pass it along to whomever asks for it. I will post a list here as I receive addresses so you can check back to make sure your PM was received by seeing if your name is on the list.

Southernfryed has once again graciously offered to give out my address to anyone who asks. Please don't ask her for other addresses.

**Please be aware that courtesy goes a long way so please make sure that you've spelled the member's screen name correctly and that you are not sending me lists of 50 members at a time. ***I have not saved any of the addresses from last year so you will need to send yours again this year. I am very committed to responding to you in a timely manner so if you don't hear back from me or see your name on the address list within a day or two, then please assume I did not receive your note and PM again. I will notify the thread if I am to be away from the computer for more than two days. (I will be moving across country from Aug. 31-Sept. 2---should be able to check messages though.)

****VERY important: I take my responsibility seriously and will not give out addresses for reasons other than HGG giving, nor will I give out addresses after Dec. 31. All addresses are deleted from my computer after the first of the year and I start fresh the following year. DO NOT ask me to send you the entire database of addresses. Also, to clarify, you must send me a list of names...don't ask me hunt down and compile a list of all the members from your country, etc. I really don't have the time to sort through the list for that. Please just list the people you'd like addresses for. Make it easy on me! :) Want to make it easier? You could even list them alphabetically...!

I've had a great time the last few years fulfilling and receiving wishes. If you're interested in participating, all you have to do is post a list of gifts you'd like to receive. You can choose books, or world peace, hand-crafted items or new cars- anything you want or need. YOU MIGHT NOT GET ANYTHING AT ALL, but this is a generous community. Someone might have the very thing. I really would like to stress the importance of saying "thank you". I will start up a "thank you" thread as well and that is a great place to post a note to the sender letting them know that you received and appreciate your gift. A PM to the person would be a second step to take that I'm sure all "gifters" would really appreciate. Please don't feel that it is impolite to ask if someone has received your gift, but keep in mind things that can slow down the mail such as mailing internationally, weather-related closures, jerks with explosives, and busy holiday mailing seasons.

Anyone who wishes to translate this for others, please do. All are welcome to join.

Have fun and Happy (early) Holidays!!!

ETA Oh goodie, goodie, goodie, I've seen a few wishes which correspond with things I have stashed way over the past year to save up, can easily get or make myself. *rubbing hands in gleeful anticipation of the Spreading of Holiday Cheer*
Profile Image
* Christmas card from you
* Postcard from you
* Discworld stamps (I have quite a few from this year, but none from previous years)
* Anything by Wendy Pini, especially ElfQuest
* Hot chocolate sachets
* Hot cider sachets
* Pop tarts, I've never had one, would love to try!
* Salt water taffee
* Fruity candy
* A short digital subscription to The New York Times or Washington Post (like a month or so, preferably starting after September, this is a busy month)
*cookbooks/leaflets about cooking in wartime and/or on rations/with substitutes
* (Wish granted by elizardbreath)

Last but not least, I love it when you put real stamps on mail, I save them to either put in my Wreck This Journal, or for collectors/charities.

Oh, it's HGG time! Last year I didn't participate, but now I'm here again and looking forward to it! (In case you wonder: I changed my nick in 2016 and I used to be called Thalasse.)

Edit. Apparently the postage prices will go up in October in Finland. So I think I'll try to mail as much as I can in September.

My wishes:
* Used stamps for my collection (duplicates are welcome too, I swap them and also often donate them to animal charity via my German pal (dog & cat shelter in Ibiza)
* Cat postcards (photo/art, preferably adult cats) for my collection, you can send it blank in an envelope or write me a message on the card and mail it to me. :)
* Other cat themed things like bookmarks etc.
* I just got two foster cats after being catless for five months. They are still timid, but I'm sure they would appreciate toys or treats.
* Horse or owl postcards for my Polish penpal (photo, unused)
* Letter paper, please not pink /Disney/childish
* Old wall calendars (I make envelopes out of them)
* Any Friendship Book swappers out there? I am an active swapper, so FB's are always welcome.
* Perler beads /Hama beads - I am especially needing light pink/skin colored beads, as I've run out and can't find them anymore.
* Anything Star Trek or Doctor Who related. I have a modest collection of TARDIS themed items, so an addition to it would be more than welcome, but other DW stuff would be great too! Also ST or DW novels are welcome. (I like esp. ST:TOS and ST:DS9 and 10th and 11th Doctors)
* Anything about my other fave TV shows (Elementary, Firefly, Scrubs, Stargate SG-1, Legion)?
* Wishlist books (I have updated my wishlist), also science fiction novels that you think I would like.
* Tea - black /green, all kinds but I don't like vanilla/smoke/cherry/coconut.
* Chocolate (I like milk and semidark chocolate).
* A scarf (I like warm autumnal colors like dark orange, red, burgundy, moss green, brown etc.)
* Wings
* A surprise! :-)

Thank you!

Regular books and audio books (CD/ mp3 CD format, please):
-Books in my wishlist; http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/wishlist
-Other books you think I'll like. For instance: Novels and non-fiction about animals, history, maritime, astronomy, mythology, ghost stories, fantasy. OR other novels (but preferably NO criminal litterature, I don't read much of that).
-Cooking books. I do eat meat, so book containing meat recipes are fine. But I'm also interested in vegetarian/vegan cooking books. And cooking books with recipes from your area/country. I'm also interested in cakes and soups.

Other wishes:
-CD/mp3 CD with relaxing nature sounds, especially running water, waves, birdsong, cricket sound, wind chimes. Or with relaxing music.
-A wind chime.
-Chocolate. It can contain nuts, raisins, dried fruits, coffee etc. No big fan of liquorice, though. Preferably no dark chocolate, please, as I don't like the bitterness. I love "Iced Coffee and Mudcake" chocolate!!
-Winegum candy and other candy or snacks.
-Tea (preferably no green tea or oolong tea, please, as I usually find them too bitter). Ice tea powder as well (preferably not containing other sweeteners than sugar).
-Instant soups, coffee, hot chocolate.
-Bookcrossing stash (labels, stickers etc) (Preferably no children book labels in English, please. I rarely register children books, and I do, they're most likely in Norwegian.)
-Postcards, preferably fully written (written to me, please :) I'm not that interested in receiving postcards that has been sent to someone else). But unwritten postcards are fine as well. You can see what kind of postcards I like the most here: https://www.postcrossing.com/---/Norway_girl
-Wall calendar. Maybe with beautiful landscapes or city views, maritime views or (wild) animals (especially with hedgehogs, squirrels, owls, puffin or sea creatures (even weird/"ugly" ones)?!
-Fridge magnets.
-Left over yarn of 100% wool (sheep, goat, (agora) rabbit, alpaca, camel or other warming animals) that I can use when knitting for the project "Ull og omtanke" (Wool and thoughtfulness); https://www.facebook.com/ullogomtanke. Not very think yarn, please, it should approximately fit size 5 mm needles or thinner needles. Thinner yarn can be knitted double, so that's not a problem. (Knitting needle size converter table: http://www.strikkeoppskrift.com/strikkepinner)
-Postage stamps (mainly used stamps) and phonecards that I can send to the charity I'm supporting: http://www.tubfrim.no/subdet9.htm

Please remember to put your BC name and mention Bookcrossing on anything you send, so I know where it comes from.
(Sorry, I haven't been able to figure out how to do links in my post here, you'll have to copy and paste.)

I’d be happiest to receive something for my friend. She’s still in a convalescent home, so she needs some things to keep her occupied that she enjoys. I can hardly keep up, although I try to always have a few books available to supply her with. Here are some things she’d especially enjoy:

- crossword puzzles
- any book from her wishlist https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/112XYJEO549NY/ref=cm_wl_list_o_1? or any book you think she’d enjoy based on this list (After she reads a book, she gives it back to me to send traveling.)

And For myself, I’d enjoy:

- Bookcrossing release supplies (home made or from the supply store; custom made labels would be great, too; stickers, release bags, etc.; German and English together or multi-language would be especially cool)
- BC wings
- any other Bookcrossing themed items :)
- a book from my BC wishlist or
my Amazon wishlist https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3DVXI23JAGNEZ/ref=cm_wl_list_o_8? or
my Christian wishlist https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/411C6O3ONLTS/ref=cm_wl_list_o_7?
- a postcard calendar or postcard book
- a lefthanded item
- an Advent calendar
- a Christmas card (Christian theme, such as nativities, welcome)
Profile Image
I just couldn't stay away. I have some upcoming medical bills to keep in mind, but I'll see what I can send. I just love to find little happy surprises for my fellow bookcrossers. And I've already spotted some wishes I can fulfill! :)

My wishes:
- super fast recovery from my severe case of a slipped disc (with sciatica and a second affected but less protruding disc). I'm usually an active person and super bad at being patient, so I'm in a lot of physical and mental stress right now. I just want to heal!
- wishlist books
- random comicbooks, manga or graphic novels (in English, German or French)
- seeds for my container garden (random flowers and vegetables - especially greens that like a bit of shade)
- bath and shower things (any scent except blackcurrant!)
- chocolate, or (flavoured) hot chocolate sachets
- other sweets, provided they don't contain gelatin

Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season! <3

Here's my wishlist:
Get something for somebody in need (via https://www.goodgifts.org/ or a similar organisation) and tell me about it
Dark chocolate - I like pretty much all flavoured varieties
Bath stuff - bath bombs, soap, that kind of thing

If you know of someone in one of the countries I haven't completed yet that might be willing to write a journal entry on receiving a book please let me know. I'm interested in any country that isn't red on this list: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/5825540 . I'm also happy to send books to countries that are still 'running' (where I've already sent a book but haven't got a journal entry yet).

Profile Image
Thank you so much for organizing this, elizardbreath! It's been a long time since I participated, so I'm super-excited to play again, and I already see wishes I can help to fulfill. :-)

There isn't really much I need these days, but here are some ideas to brighten my winter holidays:

-- Wishlist books. My Goodreads wishlist at https://www.goodreads.com/---/4338068-stina?... is much better maintained than the ones here and at amazon, but I will see about pruning those a bit as well. I love used books, but please note my husband & I are both very sensitive to smoke, fragrances, etc.
-- BookCrossing labels. Homemade is fine.
-- Fountain pen ink cartridges that fit Waterman, Lamy, Parker, or Pelikan pens.
-- A mailed postcard of your area with a note from you.
-- If you're on Twitter, follow me @chrislpontius. If you would like me to follow you back, please let me know you're a BookCrosser.
-- Join my tiny band of followers at Goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/---/15429274.Stina_Branson and nag me to update my content/finish the freakin' book already.
-- Some small thing you made yourself, like a drawing, a poem, or a bookstring.
-- Italian coins from 1991 or earlier. (I like to keep coins from places I've visited. I visited Italy in 1991 but was robbed on the train and thus had no coins to take home.)
-- A link to a song you think I might like.
-- A good vegetarian recipe that also contains no dairy, olives, or olive oil. If it's an Instant Pot recipe, so much the better.
-- A Swedish-language edition of Pippi Langstrump. (Sorry, can't make the special character on this keyboard.)
-- A donation to your favorite no-kill animal shelter or humanitarian aid organization.

General notes on preferences:
-- I love the steampunk aesthetic but not so much creatures with tentacles. Octopuses and squid creep me right out, as does pretty much anything with more than four legs/arms.
-- I am especially fond of owl, cat, sloth, musical, book, key, fleur-de-lis, and map motifs.
-- Fandoms include PT Cruiser, HP Ravenclaw, Firefly/Serenity, and Doctor Who.
-- My favorite colors are jewel tones (sapphire, emerald, ruby, etc.) and my least favorite colors are orange and yellow (except for BC yellow, of course).
-- I can read French, Italian, and Spanish tolerably well, though I am not likely to be able to reply very coherently in Italian or Spanish.
-- I don't wear earrings.

* any book about Auschwitz or the Holocaust (just recently visited there)

* tea lights and candles as I love them
* an Advent calendar (last Christmas was really awful so I'm really looking forward to it this year)

Addition:
I know this is huge, but I love vanilla or caramel flavoured coffee (grounded or instant). Any other flavours are welcome too, I once had banana and it was actually good. :D We have quite limited amount of flavored coffees and I usually look for them when abroad. I love vanilla in anything.

Do you mean 2018 calendar by any chance?

:-) Well spotted! Thanks, will change it.

This will be my second Christmas on my own (with Doggy Dearest), which I actually like. I know from last year that it is different, but very peaceful. I can set the pace myself, go back to bed with a book after the dog has been out if I feel like it, eat my very favourite foods, play the music I like, go back to bed with another good book having eaten too much i.e. I can spoil myself.

Last year I didn't post here, but all the same got some lovely surprises from bookcrossers near and far - and for once I had saved everything for the Christmas Eve (not the old me at all) and had a lovely time opening those parcels. I actually got more parcels from my BC-friends, many whom I've never met, than my friends from "real life". Thanks again, if you are one of those from last year. I will look through this thread for wishes I could fulfil this year.

My list is not very long:
- A Christmas Card (don't you just pity people who think an e-mail equals a Christmas card?)
- BC-supplies
- Tea
- A wishlist book

Please put HGG on the envelope, so it won't get opened too early.
Profile Image
I'm back. This has become a part of my Christmas celebration as my children have moved out, gone to college, gotten jobs, etc. I still own a tabby cat but it is not the original tabby cat. I adopted a stray cat this year, a young male with long hair and quite a character. He is a very loving boy. I still have my darling dog who originally was my son's dog but I am the one taking care of him and enjoying his companionship.

Here is my short list:
Christmas cards
postcards (sent to me through the mail or in an envelope to be used by me)
chocolate, marzipan, caramel, etc.
hand-made items (I love crafts.)
earrings (still losing them)
bookcrossing supplies (particularly stickers)
a wishlist book or a book that you think I might like
surprise me

I am a language lover speaking 10 international languages.

I will like any book or audio visual in any language.

It's been a rough year. Everything suffered. Reading, Correspondence, Study, Work. I had started my post with this sentence before, typed up the entire list and then the computer lost the whole thing. *Sigh. Starting over again.

I will be able to participate by granting the handwritten, FLAT or CYBER wishes of my international friends, and other sized wishes domestically. I may not be able to fulfill many wishes, but Christmas is a special time of year for me, and receiving little packets in the mail just adds to the sparkle.

On that note, I wish for:

-Each one of you to have J*O*Y ! Write to me! Send me handwritten notes and letters to tell me joyful things! Tell me about the things you find beautiful, the things you like to do, the people, places, animal friends that make your life special!!!

-Bookcrossing supplies (Homemade are BEST!)

-BookCrossing Wings (Ribbons) A great way to support BookCrossing!

-Blank Artist/Museum Post Cards, blank post cards, stationery, note cards, handmade envelopes.

-Favorite themes for stationery, post cards, note cards, and/or almost anything else would be: Art or artist themed, retro themes, old movies, old radio shows, old TV shows, old toys, anything coffee themed, shoes, pink ribbon, PURPLE, lace-y, Book themed

-ANYTHING homemade!

-I enjoy handwriting cards/notes/letters, and so I enjoy interesting pens and writing instruments!!!

-I miss the days of personal correspondence, love to exchange RECIPES, especially traditional favorites that include notes about how the recipe relates to your life, or your family, your memories associated with the recipe, etc! I appreciate it so much if you write it in your own HANDWRITING! (I am still mourning the recipe journals that never made it home - see my profile. Sad face icon here.) I have recently started a vegan lifestyles, so recipes like that would be very welcomed (no meat or dairy.)

-Donation to NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP in memory of Josiah, Angel St John and all the babies gone too soon. Send me a note that you've made a donation! Sometimes the organization will send the note for you!
https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/

-Donation to another of my favorite charities: THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE. Send me a note that you've made a donation! Sometimes the organization will send the note for you!
http://rmhc.org/---/donate/

-Breast Cancer is another cause that is close to my heart, but I am hesitant to donate to research organizations. I feel that sometimes, they are too much influenced by the big-money pharmaceutical companies. I feel much more confident donating to a local health system that provides funding for a HUGE breast cancer regional center that provides care, medicine, support, and services to women who are fighting the battle every day. You can read about them here: http://www.leememorial.org/---/breasthealthhome.asp and donations can be made at this link: http://www.leememorial.org/---/make-a-donation.asp . Specify that it's for the BREAST HEALTH CENTER.

-Breast Cancer Awareness Pink items: Scarf, bracelets, beads, office supplies, socks, etc

-Books at the introductory level to start learning any language system! (I am already learning Italian and Spanish, so I wouldn't need those,) I love to see how languages are related!

-I live in a hot area, and I crochet myself, so I don't need WARM scarves. I would like decorative scarves (we used to call them 'dress up scarves' when I was growing up,) with any of the above themes!

-ANYTHING vintage or thrift-shoppy. For example, a recent holiday gift I received that I totally loved was the hand written travel journal of someone who took a cross country trip in the late 50s. And another was a little memo pad where a seamstress kept records of fabric, measurements, and plans/sketches of draperies/window treatments in the forties. LOVED LOVED LOVED them! In the past, I also rec'd a postcard written with a fountain pen and in a wonderful old fashioned handwriting. Still enjoying trying to figure out the postmark and language!

-Stamps, but here I am going to be a bit selfish. I would like to have UNUSED stamps to help me send books and participate in bookcrossing and send RABCKS and gifts!

-BLACK licorice made in the traditional way - with molasses or wheat treacle, etc, in the ingredients (or the SALTY kind - Mmmm!)

-Please no wish list books at this time. Dad-i-libri will hit the proverbial (or maybe LITERAL) ceiling if a book arrives in the mail right now ...

LOL, I would even like it if you CAN'T send a gift but sent me a hand written note of what you WOULD send if you COULD!!! (See, I *TOLD* you I was easy!)

Thank you for whatever you decide to send!

* * * PLEASE MARK "HGG" and WRITE YOUR BOOKCROSSING NAME on the envelope! I so totally enjoy saving my little packets to open all at one time on Christmas morning! It's like getting a surprise TWICE! Once when it arrives, and once when I open it! So, PLEASE MARK "HGG" and WRITE YOUR BOOKCROSSING NAME on the envelope so I can acknowledge when I receive something and you won't worry that it's been lost in the mail!!

THANK YOU! ☺It makes my Christmas morning magical!

Thank you for the old stamps, I really appreciate them, and they will be greatly treasured in my collection, and very well taken care of.

It is so much fun searching through this list trying to fulfill wishes. I just wish that the bc-site allowed for easier overview of the forum threads as well as being able to search it easier.
