Can I start up a store in here to sell my books? As I am a good writer and have some stories sold to our local magazines for their display, is there a scope that I can start off a new book and finish it up to sell it here.

Right. That's what *I* thought. So why are there now all these links for "Buy This Book" on my listing when I register a book? I don't remember that being a "thing" when I first discovered BookCrossing (I've been away a couple of years now). Even when you try to post a book with the ISBN, now, it's only giving you a bunch of AMAZON links or a Google link--sending you to big corporate titans who are trying every way they know how to get your money--why not goodreads or a library site to recognize the ISBN? I can easily see how somebody would get confused about what BookCrossing is here for, since there's obvious commercialism going on here now. I don't remember this from a couple of years ago--I thought I had found a counter-cultural community that was really all about sharing the love of books, exclusive of consumerism! I'm really disappointed.

Because BC.com gets a bit of commission that way, and that's one of the things that help keep it afloat. BookCrossing needs to keep the lights on somehow, in order for members to be able to use the site... which is still, as before, free of charge.

So, you don't see the irony in there? "BookCrossing is not for selling books." Unless, apparently, you are a world-swallowing corporate titan with highly objectionable business practices. Then we'll shill for you on every book listing, and even push your brand when people are just trying to look up ISBN's. Things that make you go, "Hmmmm. . . . . "

I'm not saying that. I can see a contradiction there, I'm just explaining how BC unfortunately needs to lean on Amazon a bit in order to survive. I don't like that any more than you do, but I do not have any better ideas. How about you?
